I just don't get this at all. Pence just doesn't fit at all. DOB and Bowman have both said that Heyward is not going to change positions no matter what, so I guess it would be Prado or Pence in CF?

If so, this tells me Wren doesn't value Schafer's defense near as much as Fredi does.

Ugh... I don't love it.

I love the idea of Pence, he just doesn't play the right position. DOB did tweet today that he "can play all three OF spots."

He hasn't played CF since 07, but his advanced stats were just slightly bad, not horrendous.

If we do that for Beltran we are either:

a) fricking retarded

or

b) Honestly believe Minor won't be awesome.

Even if he can play center not horribly, he still doesn't give us a leadoff bat, which is what we really need.

If Minor just turns into a decent back of the rotation pitcher, the Mets would dominate us in that deal. If he turns into a quality #2 or 3 starter, it would be laughable and Wren should absolutely be fired for it.

I'm sure we'd bump Prado back to leadoff and he did well there last year, even if he's not a "true" leadoff guy. I'm not sure I like him in 2 hole either, since that should be our best non HR hitter and he's not our best hitter. Really it's a perfect spot for JHey, when he's not sucking.

I still think Bourn makes more sense but if we add Pence we can just move Martin back to leadoff.

My hunch is that Minor turns out to be more of a solid 4 or 5 starter but regardless, if its Beltran that's still not a good deal.

Yeah, but I was looking at it from more of a team speed perspective. That's the one thing I have felt like we have been missing the last few years. Schafer is fast, but he doesn't get on base enough to make good use of it.

Yeah... we need smart baserunners more than anything. Schafer makes a lot of mistakes on the basepaths as well.

I'm not as convinced of the need for speed... just need a guy that can get on base more than anything IMO.

I disagree

Prado is the best pure hitter on this team, as well as being able to handle the bat as well as anyone

frick anything that sabermetric diehard followers say on the best lineup and blah blah, but a 2 hole hitter should be the best guy on the team in handling a bat, being able to hit and run, etc, and that's Prado

Agree to disagree then.

Prado is a free swinger. He's a very good hitter. But you need your 2 hole guy to get on base a good bit and Prado isn't superb at that.

So what's up with the delay? They were pulling the tarp off the infield when they cut to this stupid rain delay filler show, and that was 15 minutes ago. Did they have to turn around and run it back out?

I dunno what's going on, but they are playing a Fredi interview (which is painful). But after it came back from commercial they said they had to jump ahead in coverage due to time constraints. No idea what that means.

Yeah you would definitely want him to take more walks, but he's still going to get on base at a very good clip(.350ish) with his hitting ability

Actually 3rd is probably the best spot for him IMO but that's never going to happen.

But you can't put someone with his ability any lower, as you don't want him to lose at bats
