re: Wellington admiral shares - Sigma
Yes, it makes sense. I've considered doing the same. One downside is it's a little more involved to adjust your stock/bond ratio down the road, since you can't buy or sell one or the other within Wellington (or any balanced fund)....

re: Wellington admiral shares - Sigma
30-35% bond funds can be appropriate, depending on your risk tolerance, and to a lesser degree, age. And there aren't many balanced funds out there better than Wellington. It's especially good if it's held in a tax advantaged account. ETA: It's fairly common for Wellington to be the lone hol...

re: New house - using wood from cut down tree - Sigma
Yeah, that sounds incredible. We've got to take down two other large sweet gums, so this wouldn't be the only one. Cost is only somewhat of a concern. If we make a kitchen/dining room table it would last forever and be a conversation piece. Besides, I've seen the prices for related things my...

New house - using wood from cut down tree - Sigma
We're remodeling our house and will have to take down a big laurel oak to make room. We love the tree so we'd like to use the wood from the tree in some way in the house to remember it. It's big, 60-70 ft tall, 3-4 ft diameter. Any ideas? Kitchen/dining table, chairs, accent wall covering, coffe...
