re: What was the point of Mad Men? - Sigma
The real question is who was the Draper Rapers hottest pull?
Ignoring the fact that she drug down the last 75% of her time on the show (minus the final 1-2 episodes where she was golden), no one can touch early Betty. Except maybe early Megan, when she was still trying to impr...

re: New house - using wood from cut down tree - Sigma
Yeah, that sounds incredible. We've got to take down two other large sweet gums, so this wouldn't be the only one. Cost is only somewhat of a concern. If we make a kitchen/dining room table it would last forever and be a conversation piece. Besides, I've seen the prices for related things my...

New house - using wood from cut down tree - Sigma
We're remodeling our house and will have to take down a big laurel oak to make room. We love the tree so we'd like to use the wood from the tree in some way in the house to remember it. It's big, 60-70 ft tall, 3-4 ft diameter. Any ideas? Kitchen/dining table, chairs, accent wall covering, coffe...

re: Can you save too much?? - Sigma
I'm always amazed when people plan to retire at 45-50 but all their savings goes into accounts that they can't draw from at that age?
Roth contributions are as accessible as the money in your checking account, and with no penalties. 25 years of contributions can easily last 5 yea...

re: Can you save too much?? - Sigma
This is misleading if not flat out untrue.
To be fair, at $150k married filing jointly, it's a little tricky. Normally I'd max 401k first at higher income levels to save on taxes. On the other hand, they're young, with increasing incomes, and Roth phase out starts at $194k. He'...

re: Can you save too much?? - Sigma
I am not following how a combined $150K salary pays $50K+ in taxes if you are dumping all you both can in 401K.
It's hard to know what his take home would actually be without more information, but I agree, that $97k is too low given 2 maxed 401k's. ...

re: Can you save too much?? - Sigma
I wouldn't even worry about maxing retirement accounts. They make plenty enough money to save say $12-15k/year. I would adjust my retirement age from 50 and work til 60. Save $15k/year and they're retiring with close to $3M at 60.. while still enjoying life the whole time.
A mid...

re: Can you save too much?? - Sigma
I would max both 401k's if both employers offer, and I would max both Roths. That's $47k a year. If you could do that for 5 yrs or so before you buy a house or decide to have kids, you will have so many more options in the future in regard to job choices, early retirement, etc. (Owning your own home...

re: Iron Bowl question - Sigma
And 2005 was the first Alabama team to beat Tennessee in Tuscaloosa since 1930. Prior to that game, in its 100+ seasons as a major collegiate football power, the Tide's combined on-campus win total against its three biggest SEC foes, Auburn, Tennessee and LSU, was 11. 9 vs LSU, 2 vs U...
