when did Minor get hurt? I know Medlen did, and won't be back until at least August, but I thought Minor was good to go.

I was starting to go crazy for a minute there. I was wondering at what point I missed that small detail of Minor having TJ.

Maybe I'm not an idiot

...as long as you don't use the biology test I'm gonna whiff on tomorrow to judge my being an idiot...

They value Minor a lot more. I think Beachy has moved to the top of our trade piece list

They like that Minor is a lefty, the only lefty starter candidate. Also, Beachy was a reliever most of the time in the minors. I see him fitting in in the pen to serve that long relief/spot starter role that Medlen began in last year before unseating KK in the rotation. Provides depth to the rotation without having to bring up a guy, shift roster, dl, etc.

The Braves and Brewers continue to discuss trades that would send an outfielder to Atlanta for a young pitcher, reports MLB.com's Mark Bowman. However, the Brewers are more inclined to move Carlos Gomez than Lorenzo Cain. The Brewers requested Mike Minor for Cain, and the Braves balked at trading him or their other top young arms.

The Braves are closing in on a deal with lefty reliever George Sherrill, tweets ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Sherrill, 34 in April, was non-tendered by the Dodgers after a lost 2010 season. He's always been useful and sometimes dominant against lefties in his career.

rough season last year but he still pitched very well against lefties and has always been reliable in the past

Now have a solid bullpen mixed with young guys and vets

Sherrill earned All-Star status on the way to notching a career-high 31 saves with the Orioles in 2008 and posted a 1.70 ERA in the 72 appearance he combined to make with the Orioles and Dodgers in 2009.

This via the Braves Facebook Blog.

Barring that we sign him, it would be tremendous if we could get numbers like this out of him.

I would trade Minor for Cain right now. We are back loaded with pitching. Beachy could do a fine job as the fifth starter until Medlen came back, then slide into a bullpen role. And if we also signed Sherrill, we'd have an extra arm in the bullpen to hopefully close if he returns to his 2008 lights out self.

Anything to this or just wishful thinking? Cause its makes perfect sense, makes us a legitimate WS contender immediately, and seems more possible now that they signed Crawford.

Just wishful thinking but if Wren doesn't at least make a call now knowing that the Sox should be very willing to listen then he's crazy

and you're right. a guy at the top of the order like Ellsbury is just what this team needs to win the big one
