From DOB Twitter:

quote:

Gonzalez listed this as a possible #Braves lineup: 1. Prado
2. McLouth
3. Chipper
4./5. McCann/Uggla
6. Heyward
7. Gonzalez
8. Freeman

Yeah, let's bat Nate in the 2 hole. He must want Braves fans to hate him from day 1 for even mentioning this possibility

I am pleased to say Frank Wren surprised me by going and getting exactly what our lineup needed with Uggla. I will eat my crow and enjoy it. Now we just need to re-sign him in the offseason and figure out how to replace Nate with someone who is a better hitter than Tim Hudson. At that point, we will have a very solid lineup going forward.

ETA: Nate hitting 2nd and JHey hitting 6th might be the dumbest lineup I have ever seen...

Are the braves even considering resigning Derek Lee and are the braves looking at Zack Greinke? I read an article on baseballamerica a while back and they had the braves as a potential destination.

Not at all. Freeman's the guy.

Nope not at all. Plenty of depth in the starting rotation and no need for him.

The Marlins asked for Martin Prado in exchange for Uggla two weeks ago, but Braves GM Frank Wren said no. He offered Omar Infante, who Larry Beinfest accepted, along with Mike Dunn, for Uggla.

whew. that would have been major suck.

more braves notes:
quote:

The Braves have offered free agent Eric Hinske a contract.

i like this move

quote:

# The club has not yet decided whether to tender Matt Diaz a contract. Arbitration eligible for the fourth time, the outfielder is a non-tender candidate.

i don't really have much opinion on this

quote:

The Braves sent minor league outfielder Cody Johnson to the Yankees for cash considerations, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch (on Twitter). The 2006 first rounder batted .189/.269/.343 in 260 plate appearances at Double-A this year. Johnson, 22, hit 32 homers in 2009 and 26 homers in 2008, so he has some pop.

he actually had a little pop from what i can remember last season..

Hmmm didn't know that about Johnson

He definitely has major pop and if he could ever even become a Pena type of hitter than I think they wouldve stuck it out with him since he's still only 22 but I guess they don't have much hope for him

Braves get Scott Linebrink from White Sox

He was a stud back in the day but has been on the decline the last few years. Had a 4.40 ERA last year in 57 innings allowing 17 walks and striking out 53. Also had a 1.32 WHIP

Not really sure about this. Only gave up a minor leaguer but his salary is over 5 million this year, hmmmm. We did need a veteran reliever though

With him being owed $5 million, I guess that means they can't afford another utility infielder.

The Sox are paying 3.5 of the 5.5 mil he is owed

Yeah saw that after I posted.

Swampdonks:
What do you think we'll have to give up to get him? The article I read said the brewers were interested in young pitchers.

Yeah it would definitely take one of our younger stud pitchers

I don't think Wren will do it since he refuses to trade young pitching but he's one of the guys I personally would think about it for

He can play and even proved it in the majors last year. He would be under team control for a long time and he's someone that gives you the speed that you need as well as someone thats gonna get on base at the top, which is exactly what we need

Right now we have one true weakness in our lineup and thats the CF spot. I would seriously think about trading one of our young arms to get this guy and you have a lineup set to not only contend next year, but in the future with Cain, Heyward, Freeman, Mac, Prado, resign Uggla

I honestly think I would give them Jurrjens. I love JJ but we're only going to have him for 3 more years with Boras being his agent. We can replace JJ with our very good minor league arms and we'd have Cain for at least 6 years. Very tempting, at least to me
