I think a big fix for CFB and the NFL would be to get rid of instant replay.

Les Miles and Cam Cameron wholeheartedly agree.

the commercial/kickoff/commercial seriously pisses me off

This really grinds my gears. I have to DVR the games and pause the live games so I can FF through this travesty. The 2 minute "warning" is a pretty hilarious money grab as well.

AS aggravating as the commercials are, they still fit those noon games in the 3 hour window and don't go over long if they do. Meanwhile CBS college football lasts the whole fricking weekend it feels like.

can't watch Saints games. It's the only game that I'd 100% watch every week but I CAN'T. How absurd

Same here. And I live near Houston where there are tons of NOLA transplants. I have Comcast. It's crazy that every week there's the Colts or Vikings on tv. Except for MNF, NEVER the Saints. As a result, I don't tune in to any of it. The SJW pandering just adds to my disinterest.

1) Way too many penalties

2) Overload of commercial breaks

3) Political BS

- to many playoff teams, they need to only have the top 4 teams from each conference.

- the NFL has priced out the common fan. it's hard to enjoy a game when you can't afford the price of admission on occasion.

- college football just has more passion involved. Alumni, regional support, and tv.

I bet the prime time ratings for this Sunday night game will far exceed the same slot last year.

Games are over-produced and over-managed by the league. Officiating is over the top. Quality of play sucks. And I don't want to watch the goddamn Steelers/Cowboys/Giants every fricking weekend.

This is all on the NFL.

Probably a combination of the GOAT Peyton Manning retiring and the election driving ratings down

This every Thursday night garbage is where their problems started IMO. Those games are usually really sloppy and just terrible football. Those were the first games I stopped watching and it has slowly progressed to just watching the Saints and nothing else.

And now, by popular request of absolutely no one, your Chicago Bears!

I feel like I've turned into a casual fan and that's it.

Because every time you turn around there's a fricking flag on the field or they're going to commercial.

Exact same here.

The commercials are on the NFL.

As far as the flags go, I don't want the players to just cheat and break rules and get away with it. So I can kinda be sympathetic there. But there are way too many flags to keep me interested in watching a 3 hour game. Not to mention the fact that there are six more hours of football on in one day. Another 3 Monday. Another 3 Thursday.

How do the amount of playoff teams have any impact whatsever on regular season tv ratings?

How would this possibly lower tv ratings? If anything it would cause more people to watch it on TV, since in theory they can't afford to go to a game.

Agreed.

I could see this impacting overall passion for the game. There's something different and much more special about attending a game. I try to attend as many Auburn games as I can, and that I'm sure helps me enjoy watching on TV.

But the last time I went to a Saints game, it was $350 between tickets, parking, and food. That was just too much for a football game.

Meh, the Cowboys/Pats are gonna set ratings records in the SB come February. Hell the Cowboys/Eagles game this Sunday is expected to set a SNF ratings record.

What should be the repercussions if they fall short of those expectations?

Cowherd said it's mostly because of the election cycle and the Cubs in the World Series. We'll find out soon enough I guess

I think it's much deeper than this, but you are right...we will see.

FWIW, this is the least excited i've ever been about the NFL.

Ditto.

I think that while Cowherd does proffer a pretty reasonable explanation -- which actually makes a good bit of sense -- I'd also tend to agree that there's more to it than that. The on-field product is indisputably worse than it has been in years, and there's legitimate acrimony between fans and the league power structure.

I used to be a huge NFL fan, but -- as was the case with baseball when I reached adolescence -- my interest is waning significantly as I get older. I haven't watched but probably 10 drives this year.

Also, as I've gotten older and gotten married and had kids, I don't have time to plop down on the couch for two days and watch college football on Saturdays and and the NFL on Sundays. College football has always been my favorite sport, so I allocate time to it at the detriment of the NFL.
