This is why enrollment is down at Rummel. They have this horrendous perception from people who really have no fricking clue.

Jesuit is Jesuit. Somehow Brother Martin gets lumped in with them, which is absurd.

Rummel is just fine academically.

Nice work nugget

i'd put HC above Rummel and Shaw... that's a badass campus and they always seem to be advertising something. Rummel and Shaw go as Metairie and the West Bank go.

and i'll go one step further and call HC a sleeping giant... something ain't happening in their athletics since they rejoined 5A

Lefty should be good to go. Also watch out for tge bball team this year. Less talent but far more discipline. And btw, PBS played a great game in the dome. Robert is a great athlete.

Facilities are great, but speaking strictly on who they are letting in, HC is not on par with BM or Jes.

All Catholic schools in the metro area are scrambling for kids. Don't think that some are above that. Jesuit's alumni base definitely helps them but their entry standards are much lower than 15 yrs ago. BM is holding on by reputation but I could see a big swing in their enrollment in the next 5-10 yrs bc of the explosion of young families in LV and the viability of HC. HC is just a quick drive and their facilities are top notch.

Rummel's one saving grace is that it is the only game in town and it is very centrally located. It is very easy to get to from Kenner, LV, WB, Northshore, and River Parishes more so than the others. I also attended Rummel so my views maybe a little weighted.

Not on par in what way? Quality of students academically? Jesuit's Jesuit, but I think you're overhyping the average BM student.

Man everybody always hating on my Saders. Like someone else said HC is a sleeping giant with the new campus and locations. St. Aug is struggling because their school is stuck in the 70's. I talked to a couple parents who sent their kids to St. Aug and she said their school hasnt been updated in years so why would they pay all that tuition for that.

For the Rummel guys, this is no troll. In the last 8-10 years Rummel has gone down hill a good bit in terms of their student body. Me and a coworker who was an '06 Rummel grad went to their school for a work event and he was shocked at how small the grades were and how the student body seemed so much "rougher around the edges"

Brother Martin has less than 1000 kids and a graduating class less than 200. That is about 90 kids less than 12 years when I graduated.
I think people are having a hard time paying almost 10k in tuition.

That's because Holy Cross is taking kids from BM now that it's not in the Ninth Ward.

I graduated from Rummel in '07 and at the time the student body was MUCH larger.

I think they also mean the student body isn't as polished, and you can see it with Shaw and St. Aug too. Just making up numbers here, but let's say 10 years ago 300 kids applied each year, you could take the best 250 knowing about 25 of them were let in on a provisional basis. Now, the applications are down to 200, and of the 150 that you let in, 50 are in on a provisional basis. The numbers are made up, the point is to illustrate how the quality of the kids are dropping.

And remember, a lot of people who would have sent their kids to a NOLA Catholic school now live in Mandeville/Covington/Madisonville/Dutchtown/etc. Schools in those areas are booming right now. Hannan will be 3A next time they reclassify, going up from 1A when they first opened and St. Pauls use to be 4A and now are one of the larger 5As.

Like I said earlier, all of the Catholic Schools are struggling for kids. HC is a wildcard that will continue to affect all Catholic league school attendance but more so BM due to its proximity bc of its state of the art facilities.

As a Rummel grad, I personally think they sold out to athletics by looking for stud athletes instead of focusing on getting quality students.

idk... if that were the case, their other teams would be dominating too...

i have a question... Ghost said earlier in the thread that Shaw might not want to play up again and St. Aug is declining. That leaves the Catholic League to four teams in a worst-case scenario. In an LHSAA divided by select and nonselect, does it make sense for Chalmette and Landry-Walker to play in the Catholic League?

if not, NOLA will have 12 5A teams total between the JP district and Catholic schools. how would you divide them? do you incorporate Hahnville, Destrehan, and East St. John and cause a domino effect across other districts?

Maybe add St. Pauls to the Catholic League, I think St. Aug will stay 5A and Shaw will be more competitive if they moved down to 4A.
