I was playing in a golf tournament this morning and my playing partner got a message on his phone about this. Soured the rest of my day. Such awful news, loved watching him pitch. RIP

As incredibly talented as he was, the true tragedy is not that that such a great talent died do young. He was one of those few people I have ever seen in my time in this earth whose was unbelievable God-given talents could be surpassed by his humanity. You could watch any Marlins game even when he was not pitching and see his infectious personality in the dugout. He had an absolutely love for life. I can't get it out of my head how this young kid would risk his life 4 times to come to this country and enjoy it's freedoms and how some a-hole like Colin Kaepernick just cant't understand the totality of what America is.

He signed a jersey for me two years ago and it will hang in my barber shop as long as I live. He was me and my old mans favorite Marlin. Too young, too kind and deserved much better than this. Rest in peace young man.

I am incredibly sad about this. Outside of the death of a family member or friend, this passing has hit me very hard. I just he cannot believe that he is gone. He was an absolute joy to watch play, and I have wanted to see him pitch live. It really is a shame that someone who loved life, baseball, and family so much is gone.

Horrible tragedy. Why would you be on a boat in the early morning the day of a game. Poor choices of younger people. Very sad

Along with others mentioned, Nick Adenhart was the Angels top pitching prospect who was killed in a car accident a few years back.

He was my son's favorite pitcher. He was devastated when I told him this morning about it. He's already decided to change his number to #16.

Outside of Kershaw, he was the only other pitcher I would make sure to catch all his starts. He was great, and I'm not just saying that because he passed. That young man had the potential to be an all time great.
