Too bad the media (minus Florio) wasn't as skeptical at BountyGate as they are of this.

I just don't understand why Goodell keeps bringing this shite upon himself. He claims to bring the hammer to help clean up the league...but his decisions lead to the NFL and it's transgressions to be right in the media spotlight all the time.

It's not like Josh Gordon can use the "everybody does it" excuse when he gets busted for his next eventual failed drug test to avoid suspension.

Repeatedly testing positive in a definitive drug test is a bit different than a 3+ month investigation with a 243 page report concluding ... "it is more probable than not that Brady was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities..."

If this is such an issue for EVERY team why have the owners not proposed a rule change to lower the minimum air pressure?

Because nobody really cares.

No one cares, that's true.

Personally I feel that every team should be able to inflate the balls to their liking. It probably results in a more exciting game with higher scoring and fewer turnovers.

But right now it's a rule. They can't just decide to not punish someone because we don't like the rule or we like the guy who broke the rules. And if he lies about it, punish him more. And that's really what the bulk of the punishment is about in this case, the lack of candidness. If Brady simply says, I messed up, I'm sorry, this goes away quickly. They probably don't dig as much as they did.

It's definitely not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

if everyone is doing it, why doesn't the NFL just determine if it would be better to have the balls with lower pressure for everyone.

Apparently somebody cares because there are rules in place about it. Tom Brady obviously cared otherwise he would not have told the ball boy to let out air.

People keep saying this, but there is no chance in hell that would have happen. If this was Matt Ryan or Phillip Rivers, it would have never made it past a couple of mentions on Sportscenter and/or deadspin. Brady has a lot of haters and he was screwed before the investigation began.

I have a hard time believing that the rule is in place because the NFL thinks it gives a player an advantage. More than likely the manufacturer of the ball has a recommended psi range and that is how it became a "rule". Brady likes the ball at the lower end of this range, I don't think he specifically requested a certain psi for the ball anymore than Luck did in that same game.

Let's take an extreme example of why rules need to be place.....would you agree that a completely deflated ball would be easier for a running back to carry without fumbling......assuming so, what would stop a team from substituting a deflated ball on obvious running plays, especially on the goal line?

I realize that is an extreme but without rules in place that could happen. Every qb has different size hands and prefers a "certain" feel with the ball. Personally, I don't care if Brady likes the ball at 13 lbs instead of 15 lbs. But he willingly broke a rule, got caught and then did not cooperate with the investigation.

This is a very easy fix.....all the owners have to do is LOWER the accepted level of air pressure.

Brady doesn't have a lot of haters. They hate him because of what he's done on the field but that's not the same thing. He's squeaky clean off of it. Everyone likes him as a person. People would forgive and forget.

If anything, all of this pushback from him is making him a little more unlikeable. If you're looking at this situation reasonably, of course he had something to do with the equipment managers altering the balls. Him carrying on as if he didn't comes off as a little arrogant.

Ex-Saints and retired Pro Bowl quarterback Jeff Blake confessed in an interview that removing air from footballs was common when he played in the NFL from 1992-2005.

"I'm just going to let the cat of the bag, every team does it, every game, it has been since I played," the ex-Jets QB said Wednesday in a radio interview on the "Midday 180" show on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone. "Cause when you take the balls out of the bag, they are rock hard. And you can't feel the ball as well. It's too hard.

"Everybody puts the pin in and takes just enough air out of the ball that you can feel it a little better. But it's not the point to where it's flat. So I don't know what the big deal is. It's not something that's not been done for 20 years."

Blake says that he'd order ball boys to let air out of his footballs just before the start of games during his entire NFL career, which included time with the New Orleans Saints in 2000 and 2001.

And every DC tells his guys to take the QBs head off. That didn't stop the Saints from getting crushed.

t's not about the actual footballs being deflated. It's the fact that Brady & NE organization acted pretty smug about providing information during the investigation.

Because it's a retarded investigation with even worse timing. I would've told them to get fricked too. As if a deflated football caused them to run all over the Colts.

Are you kidding? jealousy breeds hatred. That hatred is not limited to 16-20 sundays a year. NFL fans around the league are jizzing in their pants b/c of this whole situation. ESPN and other media outlets are running with it b/c it's a story. And it's only a story b/c it's Tom Brady. Back to original point... if this is Matt Ryan or Phillip Rivers or just about anyone besides Brady, this story doesn't last a week.

Does not make it right and it is not true. Teenagers use this with parents all the time, and we know the answer. I think what Jeff probably meant was "other people do this, too." Though we know not everyone does this because the Colts weren't doing it when they caught the Pats.

Interesting article on si.com about the 1963 suspensions of star names for gambling. Rozelle supsends Hornung, Karras for Gambling You don't hear much about gambling among players nowadays. Wonder if there's a causal connection?
