Ex-Saints and retired Pro Bowl quarterback Jeff Blake confessed in an interview that removing air from footballs was common when he played in the NFL from 1992-2005.
"I'm just going to let the cat of the bag, every team does it, every game, it has been since I played," the ex-Jets QB said Wednesday in a radio interview on the "Midday 180" show on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone. "Cause when you take the balls out of the bag, they are rock hard. And you can't feel the ball as well. It's too hard.
"Everybody puts the pin in and takes just enough air out of the ball that you can feel it a little better. But it's not the point to where it's flat. So I don't know what the big deal is. It's not something that's not been done for 20 years."
Blake says that he'd order ball boys to let air out of his footballs just before the start of games during his entire NFL career, which included time with the New Orleans Saints in 2000 and 2001.

How many teams had a pay-for-performance system?
ESPN ran a story about the Packers and their "bounty" system the year Favre won the Super Bowl as if it was a good thing.

Did Blake get caught for it? Did Blake lie to people about it?
If Brady had simply owned up to it and said "everybody does it" maybe this doesn't go so badly for him.

Just like my sister in law tells her first graders
"If I catch them I will punish them too"
I mean really Patriot fans? You want the NFL to come out and say
"We are not punishing the Patriots because we have discovered that over the years all teams cheat their asses off and we do nothing about it. So zero punishment will be had. Sorry to everyone who has lost bets on football, you are basically watching Wrestlemania"

This whole "scandal" is just one big joke. ESPN drove this story so freaking hard and a lot of Patriot-hating assholes jumped on the bandwagon because they wanted to see the Brady-Belichick duo take a hit.
Bottom line, this penalty was viewed as so insignificant by the NFL that the only thing on the books about it was a $25,000 fine. And now Brady has received a suspension that is more severe than the initial penalty Ray Rice received for punching out his fiancee.
So stupid.

It's not about the actual footballs being deflated. It's the fact that Brady & NE organization acted pretty smug about providing information during the investigation.
Not to mention, Brady blatantly lied to officials.

New England said they would take whatever punishment the NFL dished out IF they found wrongdoing. Reading the Wells report, there is no concrete evidence that Brady knew what was going on. All the report concluded was: "It is more probable than not that Brady knew what was going on." O.J. and Casey Anthony were found not guilty with more evidence stacked against them.
And even if he did know and did lie, the punishment does not fit the crime. The rule on the book calls for a $25,000 fine if balls are tampered with. No more and no less. There is no caveat in that rule in regards to players being misleading about tampering with footballs. It just says fine their asses $25,000 and be done with it. The NFL way overstepped its bounds on this one. Any independent arbiter will have a field day with this.

No, but playing the "I don't have to do shite. I'm Tom Brady" card doesn't make you any friends.

So the reason for the penalties is because the NFL got their feelers hurt?

Jesus.
Other teams and players have publicly admitted it. If it was such a huge deal, why didn't the NFL investigate the public statements?

What we love is all the people that were telling us to get over it and that our team cheated and deserved their punishment.

Brady made sure to that when he didn't cooperate with the investigation.

He's being punished for obstructing an NFL investigation. That, and being a part of an organization that's a repeat offender.
He would've been much better off had he simply fallen on the sword here. He would've had that fine and we wouldn't be talking about it.
But hey, he got a Super Bowl out of it. He still won. Why are people so sad for him?
