Brady wasn't implicated in SpyGate, and management/ownership was exonerated in DeflateGate, seems silly to apply the repeat offender when we're being told no one person actually repeated at offending.

quote:Agreed. But I am surprised at how so many people seem "shocked" at this.
That was the point about the NFL hand selecting what to investigate and "catch" teams doing. They are letting the media control it instead of acting fair

And they held onto that information for an entire season before making it an ordeal.
from page 46 of the Wells report
quote:
During interviews, when asked to explain the source of their concerns about the Patriots game balls, Grigson, Sullivan, and other members of the Colts equipment staff referenced the Colts Week 11 game against the Patriots in Indianapolis. During that game, Colts strong safety Mike Adams intercepted two passes thrown by Tom Brady. On both occasions, Adams handed the footballs to Brian Seabrooks, an Assistant Equipment Manager for the Colts, on the sideline. Sullivan also examined the footballs because, as he described it, he always checks to see how other teams prepare their balls to “make sure no one is doing a better job.” Sullivan and Seabrooks said that the intercepted footballs appeared to be coated in a tacky substance and seemed spongy or soft when squeezed. They explained that even though they did not test the air pressure of the intercepted footballs at the time, based on their years of experience, the softness of the balls raised suspicions. They also cited unspecified chatter throughout the League that the Patriots prefer their footballs softer than other teams and that visiting teams should be on guard when playing at Gillette Stadium. They could not identify a specific source for this information or reference particular conversations.
The Colts held on to it from Week 11 until the night before they played the Patriots again in the AFC Championship game... unless of course they lied to the investigators.

Referee Walt Anderson didn’t clearly recall which gauge he used to set the pressure in the Patriots balls at 12.5 PSI before the game. Page 52 of the Wells report reveals that it was Anderson’s “best recollection” that he used before the game the gauge with the logo and the longer, crooked needle. In other words, Anderson recalls using the gauge before the game that, based on the halftime measurements, leads to a finding of no tampering.
quote:
So how did Ted Wells get around the “best recollection” of Walt Anderson? Wells persuaded Anderson to admit that it’s “certainly possible” he used the other gauge. And the company hired to provide technical support for the Wells report concluded based on a convoluted explanation appearing at pages 116-17 of the report that it is “more probable than not” that Anderson used the other gauge.
quote:
That’s how investigations that start with a predetermined outcome and work backward unfold. (Holy crap, I think I’m beginning to agree with Don Yee.) And that’s why Wells should have concluded based on the scientific evidence that the question of whether tampering occurred in connection with the AFC title game is inconclusive.

So then why isn't Bill punished? He's inconsistent

That's the biggest reason I was surprised they hit Tom with 4 games and a 1st round pick. Why piss off one of the most powerful team owners in sports who has the juice to get this heard in front of a real judge when your report has glaring issues like that.

He'd rather be a sheriff than a commissioner

Because there are 31 other owners that are likely out for blood.
If Goodell had said no punishment for his bestie's team the backlash would've been far worse than it is today.
This is not going to go before any court. This will be appealed to two games and forgotten about eventually.

DING,DING,DING!!!!!!!!
We have a winner!!!!!!
How far would this have gone if ESPN hadn't harped on it everyday because they have a 24hr news cycle to fill.

I would have agreed with you if Bob Kraft hadn't come out and called the punishments unreasonable, said he's fully supporting Tom Brady, and the fact Tom Brady hasn't even talked to the NFLPA yet.

Read something earlier that the NFLPA wants in this because they think Krafts involvement can lead to an independent arbitrator for the punishment system
Brady has told the NFLPA that he doesn't want their help. I'm thinking because they will want a compromise. Brady might not be satisfied with a reduction

ESPNs a logical target but I think an even bigger reason is the entire league office since Tags left
Tags had things like this come up all the time, and he would tell the teams to cut it out or he would bring down the hammer. And that was enough to stop it.

This right here is why La'el Collins was smart to hire a defense attorney prior to speaking with police, whether or not he had any involvement. Investigators will try to get you to say what they want to hear, regardless of the truth.

I'm laughing because it's all BS, and hopefully Roger will start drowning in it. We lost an entire season because of his misguided power trips, and the guy needs to be shown the door.
This. Roger needs to go. I'm not a Saints or Pats fan (Bears fan) and I think this guy is way overstepping his bounds. This whole thing has been blown out of proporttion.
I am getting less and less inclined to watch the NFL. College football is where it is at. I'll spend my Sundays fishing or raking the yard.

If this is such an issue for EVERY team why have the owners not proposed a rule change to lower the minimum air pressure?

Exactly. It's not like Josh Gordon can use the "everybody does it" excuse when he gets busted for his next eventual failed drug test to avoid suspension.
