Cmon man. Lonzo Ball is an unbelievable offensive player, but this is almost as bad as saying he looks unathletic.

he has an eFG% of .667, creates his own offense well, and is pretty much textbook at the point of release

There are things to worry about with him but I've never really understood the shot. It just looks funky

For the same reason Tebow or Young can get away with their release in college but not in the NFL. It takes him foooooreeeeeeveeeer to get his shot off. An elite perimeter defender will be all over it at the next level IMO.

And almost refuses to pull up when going right
he rarely pulls up off the dribble when going in either direction and it's the difference between him and fultz

I'm not really worried about it with his size at his position. Now his defense and how he plays out of control sometimes given how high of a basketball IQ he has? Absolutely

the problem is nobody plays defense in the NBA until there's 2 minutes left in a close game

Sometimes a weird looking shot doesn't really matter, like how it really didn't with Kevin Martin.

His dad is crazy but from what I've seen from him he's a good looking prospect, think he can be similar to Jason Kidd with a better shot early.

Admittedly I haven't seen a lot, but I have seen some.

according to papa he's the next Michael LeBron and Larry Bird all mixed together

Actually, he said Lonzo is better than both LeBron and Westbrook.

LINK
quote:

“To me Zo is the best player in the world,” LaVar says. Yes, even better than all-stars LeBron James and Russell Westbrook. “I don’t know if he can beat them one on one,” Ball says, conceding the NBA stars are stronger than his son, the Pac-12 player of the year and an expected top pick in the upcoming NBA draft. “But I know he can beat them 5 on 5.”

But Papa Ball might be full of hyperbole. That depends on if you think he could have beaten Michael Jordan in his prime which he also said recently: LINK
quote:

“Back in my heyday, I would kill Michael Jordan one-on-one.

“I would just back (Jordan) in and lift him off the ground and call a foul every time he fouls me when I do a jump hook to the right or the left. He cannot stop me one-on-one. He better make every shot ’cause he can’t go around me. He’s not fast enough. And he can only make so many shots outside before I make every bucket under the rim.”

All he has is a step back to the left, he can't go right. Not saying that he won't eventually develop more moves, but he isn't great at creating his own offense right now.

Unathletic?

No idea. PG in the NBA is absolutely loaded, and he is going to have guys coming at him from day 1 thanks to daddy.

You never know. Rubio, Tyreke, and Johnny Flynn got drafted before Curry

he's an athletic, tall point guard that doesn't have to score to dominate a game.

because I don't think he needs to be, or can be, an elite scorer, he will never be as good as Steph, Lebron, Durant, etc. But the Jason Kidd comparisons are accurate, and if he can at the very least replicate kidd's career, he will be worthy of a top 2 pick.
