re: How did Catholic High not win state in football last year

Weiner is a great coach, and a better human being. He has a gotten the raw end of the stick numerous times, but sadly, some of his best teams just didnt have the luck or didnt play their A game in the last games they lost.

that 2006 team of his was probably, pound for pound, his best overall team, top to bottom, defense and offense. I may be wrong about this, but I do think 3? of their defensive linemen that year played in the NFL/AFL/CFL and their running back was in the NFL for more than 2 years. They had a D1/D1AA player at every position but didnt play their best ball in the playoffs.

They were in tight games, or down in many of their playoff games and really had a "lights on" "lights off" switch as a team. From what i remember hearing, they at times got a little to overconfident, being a nationally ranked team, and it bit them in the arse.

The acadiana game was a game of 2 halves, and had catholic played even their B- game in the 1st half, they would have walked away with a 10+ point victory. They slept walked during the 1st and 2nd quarters, and acadiana feasted on the teams one weaker line-- the secondary. They turned their lights on in the second half, and dominanted acadiana. I believe acadiana only had 10-20 yards of positive offensive in the whole second half. some dicey play calling did them in on the final drive, but they had a shot to tie it up after a late 4th quarter TD, but their star RB dropped a 2 point conversion as he was heading into the endzone for a score.

The box score would have made you think that catholic had dominated them, but they had 2 or 3 costly turnovers, and one of their tight ends dropped a simple drop pass in the endzone in the second quarter that screwed them. the bears decision to go for it on 4th down around the mid field line was the deciding factor. Acadiana had a d1 kicker, Drew Alleman? and Acadiana hit a 40+ yard field goal at the end of the 1st half that could have been prevented by catholic just punting the ball away.

That was the game that got away from them, and its probably the game bear fans will never forget.

also, what separated this catholic team from probably all of the other teams they had had was that their defensive and offensive lines were meaty, tall, heavy and athletic. The average weight for the offensive line had to have been 250-260lbs. There were at least 8 D1/D1AA quality lineman that team.

Woopti. That was a semifinal team that lost a close one to WM with a hurt qb.

They put their DE in at TE in the 4th quarter and one on one, the DE dominated Journet. It was a little too late though. They schemed to run away from Journet purposedly too, but Journet sniffed them all out, trailing as an unblocked weakside defender. He did this multiple times during the game.

At the pro level, teams should have motioned in a WR or had a backside blocker chip/cut him to prevent his trail technique.

Or would have gone spread zone read to keep his responsibilites to the QB

Guise got stuffed at the one yard line with the game on the line.

They threw the ball over 30 times with an average hs qb. Give the ball to Guice 30 times, he's a D1 rb. He got them bavk in game. Poor play calling

Ball has to cross not helmet. Fact is, Guise got stood up by Teamer.

This is correct. Considering the 96 team was packed full of Sophomores. That's why two years later, the 1998 team was one of the best HS football teams the world has ever seen.

If my memory serves me right, players with significant playing time that played Div 1, 2, 3 football or college baseball. Wish I could remember them all. I'll take a shot. Someone fill free to add too and/or correct me.
