Explain to me how they had a chance in 96? They gave up 333 rushing yards West Monroe would have done that 10 games in a row. They looked like grown men that year

I was listening to that game on the radio. I lived in Monroe that year. West Monroe had some big, big dudes all up and down their lines, both OL and DL. That was the difference. They abused teams at the lines. Minor was a great HS running back (had a Joe McKnight type college career in my opinion, really good, never great), Applewhite was a stud too, but WM had talent at every fricking position. They were the better team no doubt.

I just can't fathom how some people think Catholic had the better team. West Monroe had 53 carries for 333 yards rushing That is the better team.

Rummel was a perennial 1st or second round and out team. They decided hey we are going get some Westbank kids who would have otherwise went to Ehret or Shaw and finally made that leap. Roth ain't stupid.

It's a North LA vs South LA thing I guess.

The scary part is, of the 96, 97, 98 WM teams, the 96 team may have been the least talented. Let that sink in for a tic.

Perennial 1st or 2nd rd out team? Lol. Not in the Roth era

Rummel was the 2nd best team in the state a few years running in the early 2000s. They just so happen to run into the buzz saw that was evangel. They never choked. They were beat by better teams

You wanna talk overrated just look at your purp Knights who Rummel has been running off the field for the past 20 years

And a superior strength and conditioning program.

You think a program like Catholic doesnt put in the time and effort into a lifting program...

There's a certain strength and conditioning coach at the local college who sends his kids to Catholic. From my understanding the coord at Catholic was a former LSU ball player, and you can bet these guys talk to one another to get a program setup.

There's a thing called genetics. Just cause WM has produced bigger kids, it doesn't mean their s&c program is better.

Catholic was actually ranked 1st that year..... They were a beauty to watch offensively

And guess what? None of that matters when you go up North and get bullied in the trenches by grown men and a 250 lb running back.

As someone at Catholic High at the time of that football team, I can promise you they were never ranked #1 in the country that year. The highest they climbed to was in 5-8 range.

....Catholic should have won that game, I believe there was a "blown call" on a special teams play that called back a big time Travis Minor gain/score.(They were playing at WM in that game).

Weiner will get the blame for all of his losses, even Major Applewhite was pissed at the playcalling that game.

That team didn't do enough to use the other weapons it had on the field(like Aaron Boone and Greg Brown).

Oh please tell me this epic running off the field for 20 years bc I remember taxing that arse in 2000 playoffs and then beating the breaks off of evangel something them raiders could never do. Before the semis 2 years ago we never played yall in the playoffs. If we did we beat that arse. Roth got those kids from Westbank and got over the hump bc of it.

LHSAA put an end to the holdbacks. However, I doubt that they've put an end to private schools recruiting. Weren't Dunn, Minor and Guice a product of that kind of system?

Publics recruit more than Private.

There are more public schools, so I am inclined to believe that it's a possibility that they do. It surely does seem that privates always seem to recruit the 5* guys, however.

You aren't very smart if you think it's just the privates that recruit.

As a side note.. How do private schools get kids to go to their school, how do they keep an enrollment? They recruit in some form another. I have no sympathy for publics especially the likes of WM. The amount of talent they are guaranteed to get is something a private school never has access to.

Jay Roth is 18-3 vs St Aug in his career(started 1995). Get a clue dude.

He won 14 of the first 15 match ups.

Average score is 26 vs 16. So a double digit margin in their match ups.

That's almost as worse as y'all vs Rummel baseball. Automatic 10 run rule

Kinda like how the baseball team couldn't win one until Garidel left, despite having consistent D1 talent.

it really is amazing that they didn't win in badeball for so long. LSU's teams in the 90s were loaded with players from catholic. I want to say lsu's 1996 team had 8 or 9 catholic high guys.

Maybe 3rd best. Not better than WM or Evangel for sure. It would be between Rummel.and Acadiana for 3rd best and I'm not even sure Rummel was better than Acadiana tbh.
