Catholic would have beaten WM in '96 had Weiner invented the spin 10 years earlier. True story.

I could have sworn Pop warner invented the double wing in 1912. Because that is all it is, single and double wing run from the gun

Dale Wiener is a great guy, but an absolutely fricking terrible football coach. How Catholic has let him play around and choke with that program for so many years is amazing to me. As another poster said, it took getting rid of Garidel to win one in baseball. I truly think getting a halfway decent coach in there would do wonders for CHS. Wiener is just fricking awful.

There will probably be a Weiner at Catholic for the next 20 years after Dale gives the keys to the bus to Neil.

From what I've heard Fertita is basically the coach in waiting. Had Catholic won state this year Weiner would have retired and Fertita would have taken over.

They were ranked 10th in the country that year.

Catholic was actually ranked 1st that year..... They were a beauty to watch offensively

And guess what? None of that matters when you go up North and get bullied in the trenches by grown men and a 250 lb running back.

A hole lot of idk what the frick I'm talking about up in here. The only year Catholic should have won it was 06. They have been putting really good football teams on the field that are coached up the past decade. How can you choke when you aren't as talented as the competition. This past year they were exciting as hell with Clyde and Derrius... There wasn't another major d1 talent on that team. That junior class last year may not have a single college football player in it.

Catholic not well coached, doesn't emphasize off/def line . GTFO
Weiner is hands off and plays a great head coach role. He's got a off/def coord and a strength coach. A mix of young coaches and experienced coaches.

Only one team gets that ring per year... but of course this is a baton Rouge site with Baton Rouge homers... I'll compare Catholic breaking through one day to when Rummel did...

Yep. Same exact thing. Rummel fans others used to blame Roth and call him a choke and talk about all the "talent". Truth is neither team was ever the best. Catholic had one year where they were truly the best in 2006. Besides that Rummel and catholic were perennial semi final teams ready to get beat by West Monroe or Evangel

That is not correct. Catholic was ranked #10 nationally and WM was a underdog.

1996 Catholic vs. West Monroe

quote:

Before an overflow crowd of over 10,000 at Rebel Stadium, the undefeated Catholic Bears of Baton Rouge, ranked No. 1 in Louisiana and No.10 in the nation, would play one of the all time classics in West Monroe history. Catholic's RB Travis Minor (a stellar RB at Florida State University and currently a RB with the Miami Dolphins) would stun the overflow crowd at West Monroe with a 92-yard kickoff return on the first play of the game. The Catholic offense was directed by QB Major Applewhite, who went on the be the starting QB at the University of Texas. However, the WM defense would take over and hold the vaunted Catholic offensive machine to just 17 yards in the first half, including minus 3 yards rushing. FB Tommy Banks would score WM's lone score of the first half, with the game tied 7-7 at half time. WM came back in the second half and took a 21-7 lead behind a ball-control offense led by Tommy Banks and a stifling defense. The Rebels ran the ball 53 times for 333 yards, with Banks getting 36 carries. With about 7 minutes left in the game, the speedy Travis Minor would ramble for a 67 yard TD, bringing the game closer with a West Monroe holding a 21-14 lead. WM took over using the power running of Tommy Banks eating up 6 minutes, utilizing a risky 4th and 2 on their own 39 with about 4 minutes left. On the play, West Monroe sent out it's punting unit with Catholic setting up for the return. However, the offense dashed onto the field, forcing Catholic to burn a time-out. Tommy Banks made the 1st down and kept the drive alive. WM had punt later pinning Catholic deep in it's own territory with less than a minute left in the game. The Rebel defense held, sending the West Monroe Rebels to its second ever state football championship game.

And West Monroes line on both sides of the ball showed who the real underdog was. I know Catholic was ranked #1. They had a flash and a fun to watch offense. West Monroe played grown man football and a man child in Banks at RB. West Monroe was going to win that game 10/10 times.

53 rushing attempts for 333 yards And people want to call it a choke or bad coaching.

Now in 1998 there was no way Catholic was going to beat West Monroe...12-04-98 WM 35 Catholic, BR 00 (A) Semi-final
