Not a commentator, but this interview always gets me a little choked up. After watching that match live, and then hearing McEnroe almost break down like that, I will never forget that.

Another that I love is the call on Tom Dempsey's 63-yard field goal.

No, moved USA to the knockout rounds. Happened in stoppage time(basically end of game)

To take the thread slightly off topic, I don't know that I could get drunk enough to mess with Holly Rowe.

Last game of group play. USA needs to win to advance to the knockout stage (sweet 16). 90 minutes have already gone by and the game is tied. Things are looking bleak. There's only about another minute or two left when Tim Howard, our goalie, catches a header by Algeria. He then throws a perfect breakout pass roughly 50 yards down field to a sprinting Donovan. A few seconds later, Donovan scores with only about 1 minute left in the game.
Here's a video that sums up what that goal meant.

After the awful offsides call in the prior game right?

The game against Algeria was the same day as the John Isner tennis match that lasted like 2 days or whatever.
I was driving to Bham for my great uncles funeral. We turned down the radio with the USA game after it went to stoppage time. Then I heard the announcer start yelling. Turned it up just in time to hear the goal.

Jim fyffe- 1989 AU- FLA
that dude cracked me up
never got "chills" from his calls but they were entertaining nonetheless.
also, the 1994 Auburn- LSU game had me falling out of my chair in the living room. His calls of all three interceptions run back for touchdowns were absolutely classic.
when Brian Robinson picked off the last one and ran it back, you could hear him jumping up and down in the booth as he called the touchdown.

Here's the final 11 seconds as it went out on CBS. The announcer is Don Criqui. LINK
