I must have misinterpreted these two statements, my bad.

You seriously need to take a long, hard look at what you're defending here.

peterson hit him on the head as well as stuffed leaves in his mouth with the boys pants down while whipping him with a "treebranch"

Children learn through parental modeling. Physical punishment gives the message that hitting is an appropriate way to express feelings and to solve problems.

If a child does not observe a parent solving problems in a creative and humane way, it can be difficult for him to learn to do this himself. For this reason, unskilled parenting often continues into the next generation.

Ironically, he was whipping the 4 year old for pushing another sibling off a motorcycle video game at home.

right? seems like maybe he would get a clue that beating his children isn't working.

If that's true then we should have a entire generation of young adults that hit each other without remorse.

What a foolish comment based on conjectures and not real world facts.

After seeing the pictures of the kid, my opinion has completely flipped on this one. To beat a 4 year old like that is just inexcusable and wrong. There is a fine line between disciplining and abuse and AP crossed it.

Minimum 6 game suspension for sure.

This was a spanking that got too rough. We are not talking about deep bruises and broken bones here. This was not child abuse.
Ignorance is not an excuse. It doesn't mean you can say "well, it started out as a normal "whooping" an escalated to child abuse so it's ok. Child abuse is child abuse whether you mean it to be or not. Maybe he doesn't know his own strength. Maybe he lost count of the amount of times he was hitting him. I don't want to here his fricking excuses. And yea, he does feel bad, and he should. But I find it interesting that in the same conversation that he discusses his shame about the incident, he also says
quote:

But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but don’t play no games when it comes to acting right.”
WTF? People are saying "well, it's what he was use to growing up."

"he feels bad"

Which is it? If it's what he was use to growing up and he feels bad, that's evidence that he feels he went beyond what he received growing up. Because clearly he believes in corporal punishment. So if he feels bad, he knows he went beyond what is acceptable.

He did this after that...How do you know how many times he has done this to that kid? Maybe he tried other ways and he wouldnt listen?

All people/children are different and everyone takes punishments in different ways. I cant stand the people who say all children must be treated a certain way like they are all the same

whoever downvoted me is probably somebody with no kids or who has kids that are spoiled brats and thinks physical discipline is abusive.

No 4 year old should be subjected to a beating that draws blood. That should be a bright line rule IMO. Spank, belt, switch ok. But ripping a 4 year old's skin? Really?

which method? the hitting the kid on the head? the butt? or stuffing his mouth with leaves?

he was clearly beaten as a kid by his daddy when he was young and that's what he feels like he should do to his kids.

I think it's rooted in "well my parents did it and I turned out okay" as if

1) it was the reason they turned out alright
2) their parents are some sort of authority on the matter

I think it's very ironic he beat his kid because his kid physically pushed another one of petersons kids off of the motorcycle ride.

Physical violence in exchange for physical violence. That's what he's teaching his son.

Yes you did. You cut both statements off mid sentence and took both out of context. What Peterson did was wrong. I have said that numerous times. I don't think he deserves jail time though and I don't think the kid should be taken from his father.

And statistically he probably has a lower IQ than the average 4 year old. Its terrible that AP thinks beating a kid like that was the right thing to do.

If a father wants to retain partial custody of his 4 year old, he should refrain from beating him until he bleeds.
