And Jordans defining NBA moment of the 80's was this somewhat overhyped shot that finally got him pass the 1st or 2nd round?
No shite
Magic hit that shot over three hall of famers, in the Boston Garden, in the NBA Finals, against their biggest rivals

I'd say just the fact that the MJ shot really is not that far off in a general iconic sense from Magic's kinda proves the whole "nostalgia of MJ" thing.

Boston screwed up by not getting the rebound on the missed free throw right before this play.

Not arguing the bigger moment when the shot happened. I am discussing which player defined the generation. It was Jordan more so than Magic. What shot is shown more? Which player is featured more? It sure is not Magic.

When people think of the 80s, who do you think they think of?
Posted on 6/9/17 at 12:49 pm to sms151t
Good grief this is a ridiculous argument. Bird/Magic defined the 80's along with the emergence of Michael Jordan as a transcendent individual talent that would redefine greatness in the years to come.
I really don't understand the incessant need for nuh unh... this guy's deal was better and more important.
Magic---all time great
Bird--- all time great
Jordan--- all time great.
None of these guys would be left off a roster of the all NBA, all time team.

Magic and Bird defined the 80's
Jordan defined the 90's
Are you really arguing otherwise?

Without Magic and Bird saving the NBA, who knows if Jordan ever would have become the Jordan we all know today.
I cannot believe someone is arguing about this lol

The Magic shot and following Bird miss essentially gave the Lakers the edge over the Celtics for team of the decade.
Huh? How did his killer instinct and championship drive allow this to happen?

Am I the only one that wonders why Jordan didn't simply dunk it on that play?

I remember watching that play from Magic when it happened, apparently I was only 9 years old. I think that Magic did an interview immediately after the game on the court.
Another huge play from the 80s was 'There's a steal by Bird, pass to DJ!!!!' as Bill Walton put his hands on his head and was thinking to himself 'The greatest play in the history of Western Civilization!?!?!'

I've often wondered why he switched hands when he didn't need to... no one challenged his right hand shot yet he switched hands... looks like a dumb arse play to me.

Larry Bird's arguably the greatest player of the 80s, for 9 of the 10 seasons he was the best player on one of the most successful franchises that decade, 3-time world champion. He doesn't miss basically all of 1989, who knows what his legacy that decade would've been? Magic's great but he wasn't even the best player on the Lakers for the first half that decade, Kareem "The Captain" was then Magic supplanted him in 87.

Wow... Magic is the 2nd best player ever.... showtime does not work without magic.....

The Celtics offense didn't work without Bird and he was more productive.
