I have and it's awesome. It can be frustrating at times when service is spotty, but it's worth the savings to me.

Its been years now and only pay cox for internet. I got a large uhf antenna for the attic and point in where the website said most channels were. The latest scan has 24 channels. Sometimes games are blocked on ESPN3 but the spidercam is allowed. The smart tv can show wifi fed programs.

We cut cable TV out completely for 3+ years and haven't missed it at all.

Cutting out internet would be a problem, though.

I got rid of cable in 2009. There was a two year stretch in between when I split cable with others, but beyond that I've solely relied on internet streaming services. Overall life has been great ever since. I might have had it better than others cutting cable as I rarely watched cable when I did have it. Sports are the biggest loss ultimately, but with a little help from either a friend or family it's not hard to gain access to an account for ESPN 3.

I've saved $50 or more a month, 4 out of the last 6 years due to this decision. That's at least $2400 more in my pocket today.

Can we stop it with the quotes similar to above? cord cutters are becoming the crossfitters and vegans of the tech world. we get it, you saved ~$1000/year. but is it really that much different than before? unless you spend the $1000 specifically on something that's awesome, then cool it.

considering that most people that cord cut are probably relatively well off, we're talking what, a 1% uptick in their relative income?

I have sling TV with the sports package ($25/mo) along with Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime all on an Amazon Fire. That covers most anything I want to watch besides when a small basketball game or baseball game is on Fox Sports South. You can download XMBC to your Fire and then use that to hijack live streams or HBO.

see, to do it legitimately you'r spending about $50-$60/month. For another $25, i can have all of that via directv and not have to worry about accessing things via different apps.

i want something to push me over but to me, it's not worth it... YET.

This is the type of setup I would need. The issue is once you add all of that you are saving maybe $30/month?

My cable and internet is $135 right now and I have one of the best packages available.

Internet will cost $50 by itself.
+$10 Netflix
+$10 Hulu
+ $25 Sling TV
+ $0 Amazon Prime
--------------
$95. So for $40 more I can get premiums and everything else that comes with cable.

For me to cut the cord, I would have to just do sling box and amazon and save more in the ~$60 range monthly.

For me it isnt the money savings that makes it great, it's the quality of life we have gained. No more do we come home and sit in front of the tv. I go for weeks at a time without turning it on now. House projects actually get done on time. I read a lot more. I don't get caught up sitting on the sofa watching stupid shite that I have seen 100 times before.

We cut it Jan 2012 to save money and it has been great. More recently had a family member that offered up log in info, so we watch whatever we want on the internet. I know that isn't officially cutting it, but I'm not going to turn down a free offer like that.

I don't get this correlation. Am I well off or maybe just smarter to save $100/mo?
