quote:I will cancel mine this December if I'm not offered a retention bonus. $100 is too much for the card. It's a great card, but not worth $100 to me since I don't stay at SPG properties enough and have too many other cards with fees that offer something for keeping. Hyatt, Marriott, IHG all offer cards with a free night attached for paying annual fee.
It was just that much better when the card had a cheap annual fee though.

I'm just starting to pay more attention to my rewards since I started reading on here. I have about 40k points of Chase UR with my Freedom card. What's the best way to maximize the points that I have?
I also have a Southwest card to get the bonus of 50k miles since I'm starting to travel a little more. From what I'm reading, should I get a Chase Sapphire Preferred card instead?
Thanks for any input.

You will need the

Chase Sapphire Preferred card instead?
To transfer those points to travel partners, like United, Hyatt, Southwest, Korean Air etc...
Your Chase Freedom card is a cash back card until you get a premium product such as the Chase Ink or Chase Sapphire Preferred. Once you have a premium card, Chase will allow you to combine points and transfer points from the Freedom to the CSP or INK.
It really depends on what you want to do with the points. You can get some great value from transferring to United and flying on their international partners or staying at a Hyatt property can be a good option.

How would I go about transferring to those travel partners if I get a CSP or INK? Transfer UR to CSP/Ink rewards and then transfer to one of those travel partners accounts?
I would like to do an international trip in the near future so that sounds like something that I should do to maximize the points.

Its pretty easy.
Log in to Chase and click through to Ultimate Rewards.
Once you have a CSP, you'll see both cards and what points are in each card "bucket." You'll first do an internal transfer of the Freedom points to your CSP card. You'll then click for the transfer partners through your CSP. You will then be able to transfer the points in 1,000 point increments to the desired partner. Of course, you need to have a loyalty account with that partner to execute the transfer. Transfer should be instant.

Oh man, here's some bullshite.
Barclay's sent me a letter stating that during a recent review of my Arrival+ account during a security review, they identified my card "may be at risk for fraudulent use" and are issuing new cards and numbers.
I can only assume this was done because of my Serve loads and I seriously doubt there is a workaround to keep me grandfathered in.
Thing is, this letter states my old cards will stop working once I activate the new ones, so I just might keep going until I feel satisfied I don't want your fraud protection!
I wasn't going to cancel as long as I had Serve loads due to the recent changes, but now its gone and so is this card. See ya!

I"m not sure what I would do. Barclay's sent both my wife and I new cards due to "fraud risk", and I never activated her new card, and they never deactivated it. That was at least 3 months ago. You need 3 months to break even on fee? Might be worth the risk.

Ya, my fee is back up for January so I'd like to get near to there so I can credit back the honeymoon hotel and or these domestic Asia flights in December since I've about given up on JAL/Bangkok Air awards working out.
Perhaps there is another card I could get that will give me some cash towards those I haven't gotten yet.
Look at that, Venture card offering $400. My wife hasn't had that one. Too bad their redemption system might be a problem.

Canceled my wife's SPG card the other day. No brainer for me with the fee going up. I'll probably still get for myself when it goes to 30,000 bonus again, but it isn't a card that I'll keep.
Been eyeing the 75,000 AMEX Business Gold. Guess I'll pull trigger on that soon. Either way, I need to get back into manufactured spending. But that game seems to keep getting tougher.

That and they do a hard pull from all 3 agencies giving your score a ding across all 3.

Use mine for 3x gas. Turned my signup bonus in to about 120k British Avios when they were offering the 40% bonus. Not a bad signup bonus.
AA's domestic availability for MSY/BTR is crap though. I can't ever seem to use my Avios for domestic short hops.

Anybody have the Amex Blue Cash Preferred?
Just had a baby and gas and groceries are our biggest expenses. This card offers 6% cash back at supermarkets (up to 6,000 spent) and 3% at gas stations.
Even with the $75 annual fee, I come out ahead compared to the no annual fee 3% groceries version of the card.
Just curious if anyone has any experiences with it.

Can the card be used at Walmart and Target? I saw where some cards don't let you use at those locations.

Walmart and Target don't count as supermarkets, so I wouldn't be using this card at those places.

Nice. Ya, I went last August. Was a blast. Fast Lane is a requirement as you surely know, loved it.

Yeah, I wonder how many people will cancel because of the fee raise. It does seem like a bad move. And I'm with you on getting something in return for your fee. IHG is a great example, I am keeping that card past the first year. My AA card gets me priority boarding and free checked bags (barely use it). The SPG card for $60 is a great way to have an AMEX and a good card for hotels and airline transfers, but it really isn't worth $100 when you stack it up to what you get for it vs other cards.

Man, I want to go there and King's Island so bad eventually. Gonna have to do a roller coaster vacation one day, fly in to the mainland, get an RV and drive to a bunch of parks. Straight up cousin Eddie style

$125 each for tickets. $40 park entry ticket plus $85 for the fast pass. Crazy how much they charge.
