Pistol Pete mesmerized audiences and filled arenas, Joe never did this.

Yes he did. Pete may have been more talented but he had the poor luck of playing in a terrible era of basketball. Joe is going to be the most popular LSU athlete for 30 years. He would probably have to murder his wife and a waiter to mess that up.

Still the all-time scoring leader with no freshman season allowed and no 3-point line. Granted, you can probably discount the freshman part because anybody today that threatens the all-time scoring will likely only play 3 years max anyway.

My daughter’s FIL is from Pennsylvania. I noticed he has a biography of Pistol Pete on his bookshelf.

Pete is a freaking Legend one of if not the greatest phenoms the game has ever seen. But I think your selling Joe a little short and I wouldn't call fans clueless who want to discuss the possibility of Joe Burrow’s Legendary lore approaching that of the Pistol, at least among the LSU faithful. What Joe did last season was Transcendental! It was as phenomenal and unbelievable as anything I have ever witnessed in sports!

If Burrow flames out in the NFL, I say No. If Burrow wins a Super Bowl and/or has a long NFL career with impressive numbers, including continuing to show love for LSU, then Absolutely, he will reach Maravich status.

I don’t think we will name a football field after him though unless he also becomes the NFL GEAUXT.

Sorry people went to the games to see LSU win...
yes Joe Burrow was superb, but you think the stadium was filled with people to see Joe?

NO.
With Pistol Pete, OPPONENTS would fill the stadium as well to see his show.

The name Maravich resounds in the world of basketball. Dying relatively young only added to his mystique.

It's difficult for any athlete to measure up when they are compared in any fashion to the likes of Pete or a Babe Ruth. These guys were bigger than the game they played.

Joe and other current athletes may well match the legacy of past players but time will be needed to establish a revered status.

Burrow needs to have a bit of success in NFL to be on Pete’s level, but he will be the face of LSU football for the next 50 years.

Similar, but Pete did things neva seen before. Or since

You know all those records Burrow owns? Those records are called records because nobody has ever done those things before. He also won the Heisman by the largest margin ever.

There is a better chance that Burtows records would be broken before Pete’s.

Yes, and those records are 1 year old. Pete's records have stood for 50 years. Come see me in 50 years and we'll talk about Joe's records. Don't get me wrong, Joe had an incredible year. But time is the greatest test....

They'll have to average over 50, because Pete had no 3 pt. line. Chris Jackson scored over 50 pts. 4 times... Pete did it 28 times. Let that simmer....

There's really no way to compare the 2.

Maravich was, without question the greatest single player in college basketball history. Wasn't JUST the points, it was the showmanship and flair.

You'd have liked LSU to have won, but really, you didn't actually care that much, as long as you got to see The Pistol put on a show. If you were an opponent, you wanted a home game against LSU because you wanted to see him play.

Burrow had the greatest statistical season by a college QB ever, and he did it while winning a title and he did it with flair. But he produced maybe 4, 5 "OMG did you see that" moments last year; Pete would do that almost every game.
Burrow did what you hoped, what you want your QB to do on every play. Pete did things you couldn't begin to hope for.
