If he handles himself in the pro game like he did in college anything is possible. We all know luck and timing plays a big part in success at the pro level. With a little of those two with that guy’s ability, work ethic, football IQ, etc. I could see the field being named after him.

Uhm...what he accomplishes in the pros has zero bearings on what he already accomplished at LSU.

Heisman? Check!
Perfect season? Check!
Broke every record in the book? Check!
Natty? Check!
Shattered the QB development stigma?Check!

How is this even a question? I mean, really?

Its not Maravich’s fault but those teams be was on were not that great. To me comparing that to burrow who also broke all the records, won the Heisman, number 1 pick, beat Bama, Sec champ, national champion, all american..........Burrow is right with him now and will surpass as time moves forward. Apples and oranges.

One was a full time 4 year LSU player/ the other a grad transfer

One had massive turnout by fans to watch him as a Freshman/ the other had a decent 1st season

One set records EVERY year he played (4) years / one set records for one season

One has records NO ONE in the rest of NCAA history will ever touch / the other has NCAA records that may or may not be broken

I mean he's kinda already there right? Burrow has to crack a top 5 LSU athletes of all time list at this point I'd think

He should.

Maravich has the greatest season as a scorer in CBB history.

Burrow had the greatest season as a QB in CFB history.

The answer is Burrow will NEVER reach Maravich status.

He never had so many people wanting to see him they had to build a new stadium.

He never had OPPOSING fans carry him off the field.

He never set records every year he played the game. When there was no 3 pt shot OR SHOT CLOCK. Minimum of 54 /game with a 3 pt line. He might have averaged 65 with a shot clock.

It is doubtful he will ever have movies or then number of books Pete had written or made about him.

A 30/30 or SEC special ONLY on him isn’t likely.

You people don’t have a clue the hype that was Pete AND there was ZERO social media.

Burrow won’t reach Cannon status because Billy won more awards. Played for more championships and had a movie made about him.

All Burrow had was 1 great year surrounded by 14 NFL draft picks with a great young coach that helped install a system that made a 23 y/o college grad transfer look great against kids younger than him. That’s not to say he didn’t have a remarkable year. It is simply to say, live long enough before making claims about shite you haven’t a clue.

Go look it up. Billy should have 2 Heisman Trophies. 1st team all American twice and best at his position in the nation twice Jr and Senior season.
Made a movie loosely based on his time at LSU.

The hype is largely due to the difference in how people communicate today versus then.

Even then Maravich dominated regular TV and radio. It was unreal for a time with Vietnam and Nixon shortly after he graduated the amount of attention he received.

Both are off the charts as individual players, but as a team leader and catalyst for winning, I don’t think anyone matches Joe. He literally makes everyone else better.

Point of clarification, Maravich has the greatest THREE seasons as a scorer in CBB history. And he's held the record for most points a college career for FIFTY years, with no sign it is going to be broken anytime soon. He's also in the basketball HOF and was named as one of the NBA's 50 greatest players of all time.

Burrow led the greatest season in LSU football history and arguably had the greatest single season for a QB in the 150 year history of CFB. Even if he never does anything of note in the NFL, he will ALWAYS be a LSU and college football legend (like Doug Flutie, someone who did very little in the NFL but is still probably the most famous BC athlete).

IMO, he's not at Maravich status yet. But he can reach that status if he performs well in the NFL. If, for nothing else, that football is still king at LSU, the South and America.

Joe Burrow did too. No one will ever have a storybook career and record-breaking season like Joe Burrow did ever again.

Correct. Will bet he’s greatest success story in the sport.

And can you imagine what Joe Burrow's stats would be if Jimmy Burrow was the head coach, let Joe throw on every down and never took him out in the 4th quarter?

Joe Burrow had one superb season.... will not even start the list.
Pistol Pete mesmerized audiences and filled arenas, Joe never did this.
