re: Why do LSU fans settle for mediocrity at the QB position?

Will we ever get a QB, HC, Off Co-ordinator combo where we regularly put up over 400-500 yards offense, 300-400 yards passing, 50+ points
Dude this aint the pac 12. We actually have to play against really good defenses. This doesn't happen that often in the SEC.

None of them came close to the success Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, (heck even Chris Leak ) had at the college level passing the ball.
bullshite.
I'm only gonna deal with the SEC QBs in here, because the other guys played in conferences where video game passing stats were very much possible.
anyway, put Tebow or Leak's best yrs passing up against Mauck's, Russell's, or Davey's, and the numbers are about the same. or in some cases for our guys, better.
again sir, bullshite.

That's the way I took it. I agree in the 'total team' concept, but frankly I think we could have been a lot better over the last 8-10 years in the passing game while still maintaining the style of play/ system that we use if we just had a decent QB coach. Hopefully Kragthorpe is able to be that guy for us going forward.....

Since 2003 wehn you became an LSU fan we have lost 2 starting QB's to suspensions. This set the potion back a little bit. We are only 2 games into the season. Re-post this topic in decemebr and we'll where we are at.
As for fans "settling" for inferior QB play...we don't make the decisions, FYI

I suggest that you personally contact Coach Miles and Aleva and tell them you aren't gonna take it any more, and that you aren't gonna settle for mediocrity at the QB position.
BTW, Miles recruited an excellent QB recently who decided to play baseball instead. He also recruited the no. 1 rated JC QB in the country this past year. Rivers was also a reasonably strong prospect who signed with LSU.
It is also easier to recruit a Louisiana QB to LSU, but
apparently there haven't been many decent ones. JJ was certainly expected to be a better QB than we have seen.
JL, from Texas, hasn't been the QB that everyone hoped he would be, either. Sometimes things just don't go as expected. It happens. Alabama fans aren't all that sure yet about McCarron this year, for example. Ole Miss has struggled at the position. Florida struggled last year.
The RP situation has definitely had an impact on LSU over the last several years.
But, at any rate, I am sure your views expressed to the administration will have a positive impact on the situation.

True on the suspensions. False on the "since 2003" - I'm definitely a little older than that!

It seems to me that Florida or Alabama or other SEC schools have no problems blowing away non-conference cup cake teams 72-10, 65-3 or whatever, but for some reason LSU has a problem doing the same. I don't get it.
So what? It makes you feel good to watch a team blast some smaller school in that way?
Apparently your not bright enough to understand that it is not that they can't it is that Les won't.
Especially the in state schools. LM is not going to completely embarrass them that way.

I hear ya, but fact is LSU has always been a semi-balanced attack (having to lean to the run too much), but thankfully with an explosive single play ability and special teams.
I've always wished they pass more, but this is the SEC, which is not like the pass-loving conferences of the West. Also, Les Miles is a Big 10-minded coach.
The above said, bungled coaching hires/rehires and QB recruiting has perpetuated a high reliance to the run.
Here the great LSU QBs of the last 22 years, looking at total yards passing and TDs:
Tommy Hodson
Rohan Davey
Matt Mauck
JaMarcus Russell
Of course, anything is possible in the future, and our QB future is looking brighter.

if you ask me, you don't know much about college football. the passing leaders are almost always from teams that can't run the ball and they have to pass to have a chance to win. you use ONLY passing yardage as your yardstick of a good QB. to say that's wrong is an understatement. it's not like baseball where ERA is the key pitchers stat. when you peel away the obvious "yardage bloating" by the crappy teams, LSU QB's are OK. our system will not, and never will, produce passing leaders. if that is what you call mediocre then so be it.

All of this is fine until when we get behind by over 2 touchdowns and are forced to pass to win a game, we don't seem to have QBs who can put the offense on their shoulders and win the game single handedly for the team.
and we get behind by 2 td's how often? you dwell in a world of statistics. i dwell in a world of winning.

1. there is no choice.
2. there is no choice.
when a better QB comes along, fans will be happy about it.
no one is 'settling'.
JL is slow, lead footed. He can play the position.
Mett appears to have a better arm and is more mobile. Some day Mett will be the starter.
relax and enjoy the ride.

Stupid post. Passing yardage has nothing to do with winning championships. Running the ball, stopping the run, specials teams, and limiting turnovers is the proven recipe for winning. You sound like a stat whore.

They have to in order to win. We do not. Ball control is our game and I love it.
