re: More self imposed penalties for OM? - tigerinridgeland
Well I did see Nancy Pelosi on the news this evening with an LSU jersey. Don't know if I should be sick or glad. (Of course it was to honor Rep. Scaiise, and was a nice gesture, regardless.)...

re: This stupid Ole Miss / Rebel rags lawsuit - tigerinridgeland
I appreciate your comments and insights into the background of the situation. I really don't think anyone would expect the case to be finished before fhe NCAA committee makes its decision, but it may be that the plaintiffs hope to conduct discovery in a fairly quick manner. If the results of dis...
I think it is (at least) two fold, and neither are to win against the defendants.
I think you are likely correct. They may be hoping to develop favorable evidence that could then be used by Ole Miss to fight the charges surrounding RR resulting in a conclusion that does not result...

re: LSU's Reported Recruiting Pissing Contest With Texas Is Petty And Cruel - tigerinridgeland
It really isn't about Belhaven or Millsaps or D3 players. Jackson is less than 3 hours from Baton Rouge, even less from large portions of Louisiana. Heck, Jackson is closer for everyone in N. Louisiana than Baton Rouge. The likelihood of any potential D3 player being denied a real opportunity to pla...

re: Do not throw stones when you live in a glass house - tigerinridgeland
Well that is wrong. Here are the major violations for SEC West Football programs
Depends on how you look at it. LSU has had a total of 2 seasons on probation. The next closest is Arkansas with 4 seasons. Ole Miss has had 7 seasons on probation, along with State. A&M has had 9, whi...

re: This stupid Ole Miss / Rebel rags lawsuit - tigerinridgeland
I certainly can understand RR's frustration in being caught up in this situation, especially if RR did nothing wrong. I have expressed no opinion on that point since I don't have any basis to have an opinion about what may or may not have transpired. Prior to this suit, I had no knowledge of RR's ex...

re: This stupid Ole Miss / Rebel rags lawsuit - tigerinridgeland
The civil suit isn't about recovering money damages from the defendants, and it isn't about the plaintiff's reputation. The outcome of the suit will not in reality affect the public's perception, except perhaps if the plaintiffs lose. Folks will generally continue to believe what they want about RR ...

re: This stupid Ole Miss / Rebel rags lawsuit - tigerinridgeland
The disparagement and conspiracy claims do not strike me as compelling. There is serious doubt that Mississippi even recognizes commercial disparagement claims. At least one court, U.S.D.C., S.D., has dismissed a claim of trade libel on the grounds that Mississippi doesn't recognize the tort. So the...
Then why didn't they file it this way? Seems reasonable to me, but they filed differently and have made it harder on themselves. Something about their filing is odd. I doubt they ever expect it to go to trial.
Good question. My impression is that the case is not really about mon...

re: This stupid Ole Miss / Rebel rags lawsuit - tigerinridgeland
While negligence would be the standard ordinarily in a case not involving a public figure, it really isn't an option in this case due to the nature of the allegations. If, for example, Lewis said RR gave him free material, that is either a true statement, or knowingly false. Not much room for neglig...

re: This stupid Ole Miss / Rebel rags lawsuit - tigerinridgeland
Might. I'd be stunned though. Have to prove they were knowingly false statements AND they caused harm. Might be able to prove they were false (if they were), but gonna be hard to prove those statements caused harm (b/c if you prove they were false then RR likely not disassociated.
...

re: Florida crowds at super regional - tigerinridgeland
Baton Rouge is in Florida?
Actually, it is. The part of Louisiana north of Lake Ponchartrain and east of the Mississippi River was once part of Spanish Florida. It wasn't part of Louisiana at the time of the Louisiana Purchase. That part of Louisiana is still known as the Florida P...

re: As the Grove Burns Vol. 2: Ole Miss Responds to NOA - tigerinridgeland
Clinton was disbarred in Arkansas and can never practice law again. Not that he needs to, of course. He was never to going to practice law again anyway, but, he did get penalized for committing perjury. Unfortunately, Ole Miss, we know, will not escape penalties. We just don't know how much in to...
4) Probably, but FERPA is rarely ever actually used and is pretty easy to get around.
A student has privacy rights under FERPA, but no real redress for a violation. The student can complain to the U.S. Department of Education, which can investigate and reprimand the school if a vi...

re: Who is the booster Ole Miss is covering for? - tigerinridgeland
We may yet find out. The State Ethics Commission was none too impressed with Ole Miss's attempt to shield itself from disclosure of information regarding the NCAA NOA. Apparently Ole Miss will be releasing the booster names soon, unless the Chancery Court in Hinds County blocks the release.[link=(ht...
