What I don't understand is that most people here are justifying mediocre/average QB play by saying we've won SEC & NC championships playing that way at QB and having a great defense and a solid running game and you are ok with the way things are. But if where does it say that if you have a great defense and a great running game you shouldn't have an elite QB to go with it? It would be the perfect compliment.

Peyton Manning has no problem handing off to Addai all day long if the opposing team can't stop the run for shite. But if something happens that took the run away, the Colts also rest assured knowing that Manning can take over. Do any of you get that assurance or confidence from any of the LSU QBs? Also don't give me any shite about comparing our QBs to Manning. You are all smart enough to know that that is not what I am implying.

Also I don't believe in keep pounding the ball and wear out the opposition and WIN THE GAME IN THE 4th QTR. WTF IS THAT shite? It is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. You put the game away as soon as you can for which a good passing game and a great QB helps. No need to keep the opposition in the game till the 4th quarter. Nobody is here to make friends or should give a frick abt the other teams feelings or if they are hurt that we blew them away. Life is tough and these kids will see much worse in their lives. Also there is no points for being nice.

This is the stupidest statement I've EVER heard here on the Rant.

So.. You would rather have an elite QB that puts up 5,000 yards, 40 td's, and 2 int's but can't win a NC over a guy that puts up 2,000 yards, 15 td's, and 5 int's, but wins a NC

Let me get this straight. You make a statement and you get shown FACTS and it becomes cherry-picking. WOW!!!! The rant never seems to disappoint when it comes to stupidity

Hold you horses champ. I will look up my own stats tomorrow. If I am wrong, I'll come say I am wrong. I am typing on my frickin' iPhone in the dark here and my wife is sleeping next to me.

Show me where I said I want great QB play at the cost of winning championships. I never said that. It is what you rantards are saying or assuming I said. What I am saying is great defense/running games/championships and elite QB play don't have to be mutually exclusive. That's all.

The fact is that RP's dismissal from the team probably cost this team a championship (SEC at least, if not NC) which basically proves my point - which is that if you have good/great QB play coupled with great defense and running game, you have a high probability of winning championships more often than if you just had a great defense and running game with mediocre QB play.

College football does not have a draft, we cannot make the top QB's out of HS come to LSU. They will not come to LSU because(I will say it again) we are not a passing school. Period.

We play smash mouth football, it is a legit offense (and defense) in college. Now you are comparing us to Peyton and Joseph. That is the pros, you need a more balanced offense.

Granted I have only been following LSU football since 2003.

Then you should already know the answer to your own question - we win games.

2010 11-2
2009 9-4
2008 8-5
2007 12-2 (National Champions)
2006 11-2
2005 11-2
2004 9-3
2003 13-1 (National Champions)

Not saying we shouldn't expect more out of our QB play (IMO we should, we've gotten great talent over the years, and not done enough to develop it), I'm just saying that fans are complacent (even happy) because we win.

Fair enough. But I still wish Colt McCoy had come to LSU like he originally intended and also that RP wouldn't have fricked up. Oh well...

LSU typically does not develop QBs like, maybe Hawaii, because it's how they practice; where the focus is. LSU strives to be a total team, strong in all aspects, not hanging its hat on the passing game. Iowa State had a Heisman candidate twice in the 90s... what did they accomplish as a team? LSU it where it is because of team, not numbers.

ETA: I'm agreeing with you, just adding my 2 pennies

Well lets see what happens for the reat of this season , see how many games we win , I would like another one LSU won the BCS Nationaltwo times since 2003 LSU officially claims three national championships (1958, 2003 & 2007)
I would rather LSU win than one player be a standout

LSU's success is predicated on defense. You don't get the Andrew Luck types because you don't need them, and they don't need you.

I can think of only two really good NFL QB's that came out of LSU: Y.A. Tittle and Bert Jones.

Because we win? Because it is a team sport and everyone does not have to be a superstar....

OP, do you honestly believe that Colt McCoy would have put up the same numbers at LSU that he did at Texas against mediocre defenses? You have got to be kidding me.

We play big boy football at LSU, we pound the rock, which by the way eats up clock, meaning fewer plays. Fewer plays means fewer yards generally. Pounding the rock also tires and mentally kills defenses which means in the 4th quarter we can use our depth to put teams away running the ball.

I'll take our O over some gimicky hi paced flashy offense. But I guess it works for Oregon in the Pac whatever.

So you think that LSU fans somehow decide who plays QB for them?

Or does that go against some kind of tradition at LSU to have a prolific, lights out offense a la USC, Oregon etc?

LSU 40 Oregon 24

LSU Ranked #2 Oregon somewhwhere below

USC. Are they ranked? I do know that they are on probation for another few years.

Any questions?

Because they don't need it to win? Because it is a team sport and they don't need a superstar QB to win games? Because of the smash-mouth style of football they play?
