We weren't too shabby in the 70's ourselves, finishing #7, #11, #11, and #13 (in fact, USC played us in the 70's and only barely beat us at the last minute 17-12).

Not elite though. 3 NCs in the 70's woudl be elite. I have said many times over LSU historically is a very good team.

Now, after refreshing you on history, do you still think your quote here applies to LSU fans any more than it does to USC fans:

Yes. There is not one decade where LSU has had a better record than USC. At least to the 1950's.

Yes, LSU schedules tougher OOC games on a consistent basis.

What about the many LSU fans here who complain as well?
What LSU fans here have complained that LSU's overall SoS is weak because we schedule crappy OOC foes?

Note: complaints without reference to overall SoS do not count, because that's just fans who want to see better games and is an unrelated complaint to the SoS argument being made in the original article.

So since you completely agree that LSU has a tougher schedule than SC on a consistent basis, what exactly is the relevance of the relative strengths of the OOC schedules? Yes or no, do YOU believe SC should get as much credit in polls, rankings, etc., for playing its schedule as LSU gets for playing our schedule?

i would imagine when it comes down to it; voters would look at overall SOS rather than just OOC.

It depends on how good the pollsters think USC is and LSU is. Polls are based on several factors including but not limited to performance the previous season, talent returning the current season (for initial poll and very early polls), pollsters opinion of a team's current talent, performance on the field, players at major positions, wins losses, stats, common opponents, performance against competition the pollsters also rate high or even low, etc. It is not as simple as the team who plays the tougher schedule gets to be ranked higher. Extreme example- If the Indy Colts were in the CUSA and go undefeated and outscore opponents by an average of 40-3 and Florida goes undefeated in the SEC with a 40-3 MOV, FL is not going to get a break in the polls because they play a tougher schedule.

So it is not a simple ALWAYS yes or no answer. It is dependent on the pollsters opinion of the team. But all being equal, if LSU and USC have the same margin of victory, same stats or close to it, then LSU should get the nod--maybe (other factors woudl need to be considered. But if the pollsters believe each team played to its potentail, then Yes, LSU. As of now---no. Way to early.

Yes, but also many other factors including individual game performances, as well as season long performance.

USC usually schedules at least one powerhouse school, now it's now there fault that they destroy the teams...osu, arky, auburn, nebraska...

Before Tressel's OSU, last time USC scheduled a powerhouse was in the late 90's when they played Bowden's Florida St. If USC wants to be legit, schedule home and homes with LSU, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas... then pretty much everybody will RESPECT USC.

As for Arkansas or Nebraska being a powerhouse? Nice to see you guys RESPECT the SEC and Big 12 so much. If you guys played teams like LSU, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas like Arkansas and Nebraska, people would respect y'all as well.

As for Beamer's Virginia Tech and Tuberville's Auburn, those teams are not elite powerhouses, although they are pretty freaking good (second-tier).

Relax everybody. The article is written by Lisa Horne. She is just wanting to get back at football fans because she is bitter about being cut from her Junior High football team.

Already in the works with OU. Other than AU, deals cannot be worked out with the power SEC teams. They want more than other teams.

2 things - LSU was the first picture.

It was the best picture.

I didn't even know that Fox had heard of college football.

Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama don't seem to be having any trouble finding OOC matchups. What's your excuse?
