How many BCS teams want to play us?
Myth...prollem is we won't schedule a home and home with them.

If BCS teams are playing USC, don't you think they'd play us? Not to mention the other SEC teams scheduling them like Georgia, Bama, Tennessee...

That presentation was very confused.

If it just wanted to single out teams that didn't pick any OOC opponents from the big five conferences, fair enough. LSU didn't schedule any OOC opponents from the five major conferences this year like we normally do (Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon St, Virginia Tech, Washington, etc). Because LSU didn't do so for this season, yes, our OOC schedule is weak this year.

But the presentation says "These teams may all look strong, but pollsters might want to think twice before inviting them to a BCS bowl. Why? Because their schedules just aren't cutting it. Take LSU, for starters..."

That makes no sense. We play @ Auburn, @ Florida, and we play Georgia and Alabama at home. All of those teams are currently Top Ten. How do you get a schedule any stronger than that?

I also don't get how Ohio State made their list, when Ohio State's OOC includes #1 Southern Cal.

Same with Florida State, whose OOC includes #4 Florida and a Big 12 team, Colorado.

Same with South Carolina, whose OOC includes Clemson (ACC).

Same with Penn State, whose OOC includes Oregon St (Pac-10).

Same with Missouri, whose OOC includes Illinois (Big Ten).

Usually, if your OOC includes a team from one of the five major conferences, that's not too shabby.

Interesting that that presentation singled out 3 SEC teams, 3 Big 12 teams, 3 Big 10 teams, and 1 ACC team... but didn't say anything about, say Arizona (Pac-10), whose OOC schedule is Idaho, Toledo, New Mexico. How is that any better than the five above teams that at least scheduled a OOC team from another big 5 conference????

You could say Arizona is too small-time to single out for a poor OOC schedule, but then why did they single out Kentucky?

What an odd piece by Foxsports.

Discouting LSU by examing the bottom half of the schedule in terms of difficulty, while ignoring the reality of multiple consecutive top 15 challenges - while USC scatters 1-2 top 15 opponents over a full season is patent ignorance.

I have long given up on the idiot media in being able to create accurate analytical opinions and assessments of college football. They completely ignore the difference between playing road games against 55,000- 75,000 vice mutiple games in venues with 90,000 hostile fans and also ignore the rigor/stamina and health issues that are necessary to maintain a successful pathway through a schedule such as LSU's. They are pitiful.

Not trying to sound condescending, but IMO with the recent records and recruiting classes, it will continue as is (as in last 5-6 years) for LSU).

Manipulating the facts = forgetting to mention that we played #3 VT????

I cant argue that we had a tougher OOC schedule than a lot of other teams last year? We had a top 3 team on there...Im pretty sure OSU played pretty much all D-1AA teams as their OOC opponents last season.

This is a horrible article and deserves to be destroyed.

USC lost to Stanford, VT lost to us, WVU lost to Pitt, OU lost to Colorado, Mizzou lost to OU twice, UGA didnt win their division--much less conference, um...who does that leave?

So which of these obviously superior teams to LSU would he rather see win the crystal ball? They all lost to unbeatable powerhouses, unlike us, right?

What a hypocrite...

Someone might want to that guy that we beat 1/3 of the season ending top 15 teams. How's that a soft schedule? You could say that we actually beat 6 of the top 15 if you add ourselves. We beat ourselves twice last year in losing to Arky and UK.

I guess being the only team to finish 5-0 against the final top 15 is cupcake! (roll eyes)

the next best team was UGA at 2-1...USC was 1-1...give us a break people!

How is saying LSU has recently joinged the elite not giving LSU respect historically? ELite as in a consistent top 5 team in the hunt year after year and once who is sure to bounce back to that very same status after a down period. I am aware that LSU has historically been a very good team.

LSU re-joined the elite the same time you guys did.

You guys didn't re-join the elite until 2002 (Pete Carroll's second season). We finished #7 in 2001 (Nick Saban's second season) and won the national championship in 2003.

Look, all it takes is "LSU has a weak OOC scheule"--no more no less and meltdown occurs. I guess you are going to say that is incorrect
If there had ever been a thread where that statement was made WITHOUT the suggestion that it reflected a weak schedule and a "meltdown" had occurred, then you might have a point. But since that assertion has never once been made without it being an attempt to indict the overall strength of LSU's schedule or to suggest that LSU schedules weakly, your comments are (as usual) pointless.

Apparently, you do not know CF history. Check out wins, bowl wins, wins against top 5, 10, 20 teams.

Yes, that is why . . . Envy of LSU.
Yes. For every post by an SC fan on this board, that is exactly why. That is a far more rational and justifiable conclusion than describing every post on a college sports board that involves SC -- generally one of the highest ranked teams in college football the last several years -- as "an obsession with Southern Cal."

quote:

But either way, many fans have yet to learn how to handle it
That may or may not be true. But what is undeniably true is that all of the LSU fans on this board have learned what none of the SC fans on this board have -- how to "deal" with it enough to stay on our own teams' boards. Which is a far greater degree of control over whatever hangup, "obsession" or jealousy we may have than the SC fans like you have clearly managed.

LSU does schedule weakly. The only games they schedule are OOC games. Others are set.
