So Hannagriff is pretty much a shoe-in to replace Hawthorne, right?

I heard him mention applying

-close with the LSU brass
-has experience
-Big LSU fan so it will seem genuine

How does everyone feel about him in the role?

- he knows his stuff and I like the guy, I just don't know if the voice has that extra something special

Sometimes his voice seems disinterested, and his enthusiasm for a big play comes across as forced every now and then.

Every time he says "We'll be back on the LSU sports radio network." he sounds like he'd rather be doing something else.

For baseball maybe, they need a much better PBP guy for football though.

his call of "call strike 3" is painful to hear. His HR calls are slightly less painful, because it's a HR. I could go forever and not listen to a single broadcast that he calls. I'd much rather follow it on TD, because it's more interesting then to listen to his boring monotone description of a game.

Hannagriff and Franques for baseball.

Patrick wright for women's sports.

Tim Brando and Ricky Blanton for basketball.

Gordy Rush and Doug Moreau for football.

Then no, he would be a lackluster replacement.

At times he's pompous and acts like a know-it-all. However, he is a very, very good play by play man. IMO

Honestly, do they really? Every football game is easily accessible on TV now. The radio PBP guy is kind of nostalgic at this point. I wonder what the ratings for the actual game broadcasts are.

I know a lot of people who can't stand listening to TV announcers, especially Lil' Gary Danielson. They turn the TV down and put on the radio.

That would be a LSU move for sure, just like hiring JJ ... on the CHEAP ...

I like Charlie but I don't think he will replace JH. He may still help with the baseball broadcasts, though.

We will hopefullly see someone with a higher profile than the local guys.

I would prefer to see someone with a more well rounded background.

My pick would be someone like

Clay Matvick

I think he's one of the most knowledgable sports personalities in the area, but unfortunately he doesn't have the voice to be an effective PBP guy. His voice is painfully monotonous to listen to at times. LSU can do much better. They'd be settling if the decide on Hanagriff.

I'm convinced people don't actually listen to what announcers are saying. Has nothing to do with content or actually being informed as to what is occurring on the field of play. All about flashy lights and sounds. If it sounds "boring" it's terrible and that person is terrible at PBP. Hence why some idiots still prefer Hawthorne over Hannagriff for baseball and why some hate Gary Danielson.
