re: So Hannagriff is pretty much a shoe-in to replace Hawthorne, right?

I thought Alleva said it would be one person for all 3 jobs.
He did, and I think that's how it should be.
I know radio is not as important as in John Ferguson's day, but it's still important to have one voice immediately recognizable as "LSU."
For much of my life, that was Jim Hawthorne. Sure, I've had gripes about him the last few years, but I have to hand it to him; his voice is distinctive and you immediately know it's an LSU broadcast.
So yes, I think we still need one distinctive person/voice as The Voice of the LSU Tigers.

Does Ron Franklin have a job? I know he's a sexist a-hole but he was a damn fine broadcaster, and he narrated an LSU vhs tape once so...connections.
Besides the stigma, RF is 73 years old. And hey, my favorite, Jim Henderson, is 67.
I'm not an age person--hell, I'm an older guy in a young man's game--but I'd like to see a nationally known broadcaster who's had some professional success, but young enough to be the Voice of the Tigers for 25-30 years.
I admit, that's a tall order and I don't know who can fill it.

I thought 71, but either way, too old to start.

I wonder if George Plaster has applied for the job? I know he rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but he's certainly qualified for the job, according to the LSU requirements. He certainly knows the SEC backwards and forwards. I doubt he would leave Nashville.

Kent Lowe pbp, Deke Bellavia color.

A program the caliber of LSU should be able to attract an outstanding pbp guy from a national search. Perhaps someone whose name has not yet been mentioned on this thread.
Also, I was wondering if anyone thinks that Hawthorne will have any input into this selection?

This will be Alleva's lasting legacy with this hire.
Screw this up and it could screw up LSU broadcasts for decades.

I'd be really happy
If they get a national guy !!
It almost definitely won't be an ESPN, Fox, etc. type because those guys are already making way much money than the LSU gig will pay.
So if you're hoping for Tim Brando, Clay Matvick, Dari Nowkhah, Joe Buck, Al Michaels, Bob Costas, (insert pie-in-the-sky, unrealistic national guy here) forget about it.
Posted on 4/9/15 at 1:20 pm to Nix to Twillie
I think Brando would be a Homerun hire...also wouldnt mind them stealing Joel Meyers from the Pelicans. If you are looking for someone young...Chad Sabadie of FOX8 in New Orleans would not be bad.
Im sure guys like Victor Howell, all the guys at ESPN BR Radio and Jordy Hultberg have applied as well...Do Not want "Put me to sleep" Hanagriff or "Pucker Up" Rollins....that would be a disaster

Honestly I really like listening to Jordy Hultberg. Very level headed, upbeat, honest opinions. I haven't heard his name much though, so I guess I'm in the minority.

Steve Bunin will be the next voice of the Tigers
if you do not who he is, then look it up
he has the pedigree and the skins on the wall
Syracuse, ESPN, CST
unless he has major skeletons in the closet, he is the guy for the job.

Whoever it is they need to know baseball very well. The other sports need allot
more flash, baseball fans are for the most part more knowledgeable than fans
of the other sports.
The Bama announcers last week had zero flash, but they very clearly and accurately
described what was happening on the field. They were very clearly Bama homers since that's who is paying them but they gave LSU players credit for good plays and questioned the numerous bad call that went both ways.

It all comes down to , do you want a LSU / BR/ Louisiana person to get it. Nobody locally seems to have the credentials. Would you be ok with someone from Minnesota that doesn't have a clue of any memorable LSU moments from getting beaten in a driving rainstorm in 1988 against Miami or the 1996 Barn Fire Game at Auburn. Do you want somebody that has been through the highs and lows, or somebody that can say, " oh yeah LSU has 5...no wait 6 CWS titles."
But, they are an excellent announcer. Just all what's important to different people.
