Does Science not include the 2 years it happened?

The first time was with 2 losses, which will prevent you from even going to Atlanta in today's SEC West. Even though LSU was obviously the most talented team in the country that year Miles still managed to lose 2 games with one being at home to an unranked Arkansas team while being ranked #1.

The second time it happened we had a serviceable QB (Lee), before he got benched for JJ, and an all world defense including a once in a lifetime player in Tyrann Mathieu.

The next 2 years we will have AJ under center followed by one year of BH (if he doesn't transfer) who really must not be very good at all if he hasn't unseated AJ by now.

Furthermore, the SEC championship game has been won 3 whole times since 1992 by a team with more than 1 SEC loss? LSU in 01 and 07 and UGA in 05. In the 'golden age' of LSU football under miles he's managed to have 1 season where he lost fewer than 2 games. 1 time in 10 years even though he's had 4 or 5 (05, 06, 07, 11, 13) of the most talented teams LSU's had over the last 25 years.

I'm sorry that I'm not optimistic that we'll go undefeated or go 11-1 between 2015-17 to get us to ATL to win the SEC.

I also think he has peaked

I recall pretty much the same being expressed in 08, 09 and we all know how wrong the "experts" here were at that time. You know, "Miles won with the Saban players" BS or "8-8 in the SEC" or "LSU will never be relevant again as long as Miles remains at LSU" or "Miles will never beat Saban" or "LSU will never recruit top talent again" or other such BS.

There is not a program in the nation playing big time college football which hasn't experienced some ups and downs in the past 10 yrs.

It's interesting to me that many of those expressing such disappointment in the 2014 season and bringing out their cliff jumping gear will turn around and express how healthy LSU football was in 04 with a 4 win drop from 03.

I don't think he should be fired

Really? How open minded of you to not want a LSU football coach who is winning 80% of his games "fired".

Don't care about overall winning % because that was procured with a liberal dose of Towson and Kent State schools on the schedule.

Do you not realize he also has the second-best CONFERENCE record?

If his career winning pct is your main concern I think you should be very happy until Miles leaves.

OP we don't need your crap analysis. Intelligent college football fans knew Miles wasn't going anywhere. If he loses 5 next year he is on the hot seat. If 2016 is bad we buy him out

My point is that we are stacked and that our QB situation will only improve, so he will not lose more than 4 in either 2015 nor in 2016. As such, your analysis is based off of a different premise than mine. If he wins 9 or more in 2015 and in 2016, which is much more likely than not. he WILL coach the 2017 if he so chooses. Based on all observations, everyone should be able to agree than under those circumstances, he will be at LSU as HC for at least 3 more years. At that point, he will be the "winningest" coach in LSU's history in most or all categories, and with 13 years under his belt. will be even less likely to be turned loose by the LSU hierarchy. That is University Politics 101 (especially at LSU). Your premise and mine are not the same. I am expressing my opinion that my scenario of him winning 9 or more in the next 2 years is much better of a possibility than yours that he loses 5 games in one of both of the next 2 seasons.

Gus Malzahn also has a better winning percentage vs. SEC Opponents.

So I guess Hal Hunter is the GOAT.

Since Miles took over the program in 2005, only Alabama has a better conference record. Since Miles' first recruiting class became upperclassmen, only Alabama gas a better conference record.

I can see how my argument was interpreted in the context of SEC history given Jax's comments, but I prefer to compare Miles to his peers rather than his predecessors.

Gus might. Auburn doesn't. You're splitting hairs. IMO, two years isnt much if a sample size. Gus needs to around longer before I see him as anything more than an up-and-comer.

Case in point: Kevin Sumln

Yeah, the SEC today. No sense in comparing Miles to long-deceased coaches.

Just stupid that people try to diminish his record by discounting OOC games.

He does. You're right, it isn't a large sample size, but there are some posters that will use (twist/falsify) any number they can think of to try to pump Miles, so it seems fair to me to bring the most recent numbers into the discussion.

And it's not fair to Malzahn to talk about Auburn's records before he was the head coach.
