A lot more classy than Auburn, that's for sure!

If Auburn was aware of any violations that would affect Newton's eligibility, he would not have played. Our compliance staff has worked with the NCAA throughout the entire investigation (hence the instant reinstatement once we ruled him ineligible for his father's solicitation)

We found nothing, the NCAA has found nothing, and I'm fairly optimistic that Auburn's going to be fine in the end.

this has been going on in the background and i've been wondering for some time when it would come to a head. however this is the first i've heard of the "other" violations uncovered during the investigation.

hopefully the ncaa looks and agrees we found everything and our self-imposed sanctions are appropriate. until then it is still brewing.

Newton's father's actions made Newton ineligible. The NCAA declared him ineligible and immediately declared him eligible. It stinks. The NCAA precedent is arbitrary and is not deserving of respect. It means anyone's agent can negotiate money with a team as long as the agent says he did not tell the player. LSU should have done nothing more than fire the coach involved. Running scared is foolish, unless there is more to the story than is being published. All the facts should be published in all of these situations; otherwise it is impossible to police the NCAA itself.

nah, there are still consequences due to the extra benefits said coach gave to the player. lsu can't escape that fact.

Does anyone know if LSU waited to announce this until after Mettenberger sent in his LOI as to not scare him away?

and it invloved more than just that one cach. Thousands of phone calls by staffers.

Fron 2theadvocate.com:

quote:

The initial violations involved former assistant coach D.J. McCarthy and defensive lineman Akiem Hicks.
But the LSU report also stated that thousands of improper phone calls between non-coaching football staffers and recruits, their families, high school coaches or administrators were discovered after the initial violations were reported in March.

Administrative phones calls aren't as bad improper benifits. And they weren't by coaches or assistants so oh well. Tough Break but we still run a very clean program

AGree, but I was just pointing out it was more than just the coach story, which many seem to still think it is (just the coach/improper benefits). On the recruiting board, someone said I better provide a link with an accusation like that.

with thousands of calls, I think LSU did the right thing. It's not like it was ten, fifty, or even 100

No ..LSU has the most unethical dirty program ever to be known to college football.

Les Miles is really the Joker from Batman.

Cleaver disguise.
We have all been fooled by this criminal mastermind.

Why is he even here?

He can't win games, he can't recruit, everyone hates him.

WE need to hire Lane Kiffen.

LSU should have contacted USC and asked how to get away with this.

The reports states: such calls were mostly about "routine cleric tasks" and did not give LSU "any significant recruiting advantage"

If you going to trash LSU at least put all the context in the post and not just what you want.
