Auburn recruits are limited to only 2 rolls of TP on trees.

I was just pointing out it was more than just the coach story, which many seem to still think it is (just the coach/improper benefits).
Exactly. All you have to do is read the report (which I did and mentioned on page 1) to know that this is a separate, albeit (relatively) minor, incident. There were people in the athletic department who made calls, thinking they were doing nothing wrong, but who were technically violating the NCAA rules. If you read the report, it all seems like minor stuff, but thousands of phone calls can't be ignored.

These violations are due mainly to the ignorance of the coaching staff regarding compliance rules.
Also there appears to have been sloppy record keeping. Sort of like a time management issue?

We restricted ourselves from scoring a meaningless late TD against LSU.

What ever happened to Hicks anyway? Anybody pick him up or did he go back to JUCO?

You better watch it. You may find that after the BCS Championship Game that all of the touchdowns yall scored this year may turn out to be meaningless.

McCarthy and Hicks situation from last year
We should have used intermediates to pay Hicks' family money, then have all LSU personnel and Hicks deny any involvement in the pay-for-play.
(Seriously, who knew that would work?)

seriously, take the Camgate shite to SECr. there are a million threads about it. This is about LSU.
That being said, I still think we are a clean program. Some rantards may bash CLM, but he took care of the problem and he and the administration is ensuring we continue to run a clean program.
If our big infraction is too many phone calls to recruits instead of paying players like SMU or players arrested like Florida, then I think our program and fans can sleep easy.

It is kind of a big deal. But since we punished ourselves..the NCAA should leave us alone. We took care of the coach who gave him the free housing..and removed the kid from the university. We did everything we were supposed to do..and now we gave our self some hefty penalties. It happens..but it could be worse.
I hope the NCAA does not want to F
flex its muscles..AS IT NORMALLY DOES..seldom are self administered sanctions enough for the NCAA..no matter of fair. I think they feel as if they were denied of their power.

I think part of the problem regarding the phone calls may be the over reaching NCAA rules. From reading the article, it seems that most of these "thousands" of phone calls were made by secretaries, or other clerks, arranging flights, or lodging etc. for a recruit. I can certainly see a staffer calling a potential recruit, or his parents, after the recruit has told the university that he wants to come for an official visit, and arranging dates, times etc. What I think is ridiculous is to think that a coach actually has to make all of those calls, or it is a violation of NCAA rules. I can understand the NCAA wanting to be able to police the actions of coaches in recruiting, and I guess they prevent non coaches from talking to recruits because the NCAA has no real leverage over the non coach, but I think that a university should be able to designate one or two clerical staff as assistants to the coach and they should be allowed to handle scheduling etc.
With all of the NCAA rules, I can understand that the support staff had no idea what they were doing was against the rules.

Two things come to mind while reading this.
1.) the buyout of Miles' contract is caput
2.) the strength and conditioning coach for the Jets acted alone.

This is a minor infraction.
Quite honestly, imo, if you're playing football in the SEC and vying for the best players in the country, I fully expect a minor infraction every once in a while. If not, you're not recruiting aggressively enough.
The key word is minor... and it shouldn't be happening on a regular basis.

When I read the headlines I thought the same as many that LSU over self-imposed. Given the number of calls, and the percentage of players involved, I understand why. However, the NCAA recently said they are not concerned about calls as much because of the email loophole.
I don't see the NCAA upping the penalty any.

RE: Ross
Reality is hitting home that Auburn is going to end up facing serious charges, so they are all just holding on for now trying to fan the flames on different boards. Once all of the shite hits the fan, the barners will run like farm mice.
