Post game write up from D1ARugby.
LSU, Oklahoma prevail in Red River showdowns
quote:

Eight months after losing to LSU by just two points, Texas A&M had plans to travel to Baton Rouge, La. and hand the Tigers their first Red River defeat since joining the conference last year. LSU, however, had plans of its own....

LSU should be able to finally crack the rankings this week after proving them self against a quality A&M squad. I'll update with the rankings when the get released.

Eta: LSU cracks the rankings at #20 after the A&M win.

And #20 LSU caps off the fall season a perfect 3-0 in league play after a 62-5 victory in Dallas over the TCU Horned Frogs.

LSU is off until the Spring season which will kick off Jan. 28 against a Houston squad who has been overwhelmed with their first year in top division rugby.

Summary from D1A Rugby about the game this weekend where LSU beat TCU 62-5 in Fort Worth.

quote:

The two met in Fort Worth, Tex. this past Saturday before they step away from the pitch over the winter break. LSU did most of the scoring for the two teams over the next 80 minutes. Flanker Brennan Falcon and hooker Hunter Breit helped the Tigers early on scoring two tries. Breit’s two conversions made the score 14-0 in the 16th minute....

quote:

...In the 25th minutes, Charles Mitchell took control of the match and scored three tries in seven minutes. The dynamic winger added to his already impressive hat trick by scoring twice more in the 60th and 67th minute. Daniel Boudreau, Andrew Mullins and Cameron Troxler added a try each to the Tiger’s tally. By the 72nd minute, LSU had marked 62 points...

LSU @ TCU Game Recap

I'll post link to the rankings when the are released.

eta: I just realized something... LSU rugby is the highest ranked sports team on campus (At least until baseball/softball starts). Not too shabby for a club sport with no scholarships.

I'll go ahead and bump this thread as the Spring rugby season kicks off this weekend at Houston.

LSU has a much much easier opening match this half of the season than they had in the Fall. This match against Houston promises to be a bloodbath.

Here's LSU fall results against D1 teams
10/8 @ #4 Arkansas State (L 5-45)
10/29 Texas (W 48-7)
11/12 Texas A&M (W 36-26)
11/19 @ TCU (W 62-5)

Aaand... here's Houston's
10/8 vs Texas St (L 26-31)
10/22 vs TCU (L 22-41)
10/28 @ Texas A&M (L 0-108)
11/5 vs Texas A&M (L 7-90)
11/12 @ North Texas (L 27-65)
11/19 @ Texas (L 12-75)

My bold prediction for the final score?

With it being the first game coming back from winter break it may take a bit to shake off some of the rust for the Tigers.

LSU 115 - Houston 5
Looks like I was off by just a little bit.

Just got word of the final score from Coach Red.

LSU 129 - Houston 0

Largest shutout victory under the current coaching staff, maybe the largest in LSU history. Second highest score (131 in 2010).

Good stuff Tigers,

Wtf kind of team is Houston putting out? They are probably absolutely overwhelmed physically. That's a safety hazard, they shouldn't be playing each other even.

Next up on the chopping block is UT. LSU plays the Longhorns next Saturday (2/4) in Austin.

Kept form, we won, when we moved the ball we scored. 128-0, post game talk means zero if we don't put 80 on Texas.

I wasn't there. But if I had to guess, they had a couple good athletes but most of the fowards were probably big and out of shape.

Also, rugby is make it-take it, when you score the other team kicks it back to you. LSU probably had the ball 90% of the game. Coaching and experience goes a long way as well.

Houston had always sucked. I played for Sam Houston in the late 90s and had some good matches against LSU. Good luck!

Post game report from Goff Rugby
Goff Rugby Report... Tigers Pounce
quote:

And LSU is 4-0 and got there in emphatic fashion, thrashing Houston 129-0. Ten different Tigers scored tries, with No. 8 Todd Dupre getting four, and fullback Cameron Troxler, flanker Brennan Falcon, flyhalf John Crilly, scrumhalf Michael Lloyd, center Trevor O'Neill, and back Michael Owens all scoring twice. Wing Alec Miller scored 19 points before ceding the kicking duties to hooker Hunter Breit, who slotted ten for 20 points of his own. It was a dominant performance, for sure.

quote:

With LSU's win and A&M losing, LSU is in command in the South, but the Tigers will have Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Houston left on the schedule.

Here are the current Red River standings.

The Tigers are off to Austin this weekend to face the Texas Longhorns. LSU won the first meeting between the two teams 48-7 in Baton Rouge. LSU hopes to keep their perfect conference record intact. This game gives LSU a great opportunity to show that last weekend's thrashing of University of Houston wasn't a fluke and LSU may generate some national interest with a repeat performance.

If anyone in the Austin area wants to go check out the game here's the event link.

LSU's has done a great job assembling this team from in-state players and bringing in athletes from around the country and around the world to round out the team.

LSU's starting 23 features

14 NOLA area players (6 from Jesuit, 4 from Shaw, 1 from Holy Cross, and 1 from Brother Martin, 1 from Slidell, 1 Destrahan), 3 Texas born players, one from Northern California, one player from Maryland and another from Boston, two Scottish players, and another from Australia.

Got the report back on the LSU rugby match today. Final score LSU 64 Texas 12. LSU exploded out of the gate jumping to a 40-0 lead a mere 20 minutes in. Both teams seemed to settle in after and the LSU reserve players received tons of playing time again this weekend. It's not the 80-0 scoreline the Tigers were aiming for but they still managed to continue their dominance of the state of Texas.

Coming up next week, LSU will host #10 Arkansas State for the back end of a home and away with the Red Wolves.

And as always.
Geaux Tigers and Bulawayo!
