Brief rankings update.

LSU Moves up one more spot to #16 this week in the D1A Poll after a 33-10 victory over Texas A&M. The Tigers have been ranked most of the season and have had a slow yet steady climb in the relatively static rankings. I expect LSU will likely finish the year somewhere in the 12-14 range if they can manage to take care of business against Houston and Baylor.

The team is off this week as Arkansas has forfeited their match against the Tigers citing numbers and funding issues. The match will count as a 20-0 win for LSU. LSU has already clinched the division so the game wouldn't matter in terms of standings. LSU does not have any 15's matches until their final regular season game against Houston March 25th.

LSU plays it's final match of the regular season this upcoming weekend against the University of Houston. This game serves as a much needed warmup game before the Red River Championship against Baylor. LSU hasn't been in action since a 34-10 win over A&M on March 4th. In the meantime the only other result was a forfeit win over Arkansas. Since that win over A&M, LSU has remained static in the polls at #16 and the Red River Championship match up has long been decided.

When these two teams met earlier in the season in Houston, LSU came away with a 129-0 shutout win. I expect a very high scoring dominating effort by LSU in it's final home game which will also serve as senior day for the Tigers.

Hopefully there will be one more chance after this weekend to see LSU at home in action as the winner of the Red River will host a home first round playoff game, but nothing is guaranteed.

Kickoff is slated for 1:30PM.

Geaux Tigers! Bulawayo!

Today's match against Houston has unfortunately been cancelled due to weather. Heavy rain, lightning, and poor field conditions are at fault. This leaves LSU without a single match in almost a month leading up to it's Championship Match against Baylor. These kinds of result, a forfeit win and a cancelled game, also hurt the Tigers in the rankings as it causes them to plummet out of the national spotlight. Sometimes though you just have to play the hand you're dealt.

LSU is next in action next weekend in Austin for the Red River Rugby Collegiate Conference Championship... The RRRCCC. Unnecessarily long name aside, LSU is completely focused on taking down a dangerous Baylor side. The Baylor Bears are the surprise team in the league this year. Despite a rough start and a huge loss to Oklahoma early in the fall, they found a way to turn it around. A determined Baylor team managed to win out and captured the Red River North crown.

This one is promises to be a tough battle for the Tigers and they hope to show up in peak form. The winner will receive a first round home playoff game and the loser may be left out of the playoffs entirely. It will be a full day of rugby next weekend in Austin. There will be consolation matches for other Red River teams, followed by a semi-professional match between the Austin Huns and Rugby Utah. This is all leading up to the main event. LSU vs Baylor.

Goff Rugby - LSU v Baylor Preview

The Red River Championship weekend is finally here. Tomorrow night, LSU will take on Baylor for the Red River crown. Despite being a heavy favorite based on their unblemished conference record, LSU is taking no chances against the best team Baylor has had in years. The winner earns a home playoff game and the loser may be left out entirely.

The match will be streamed live starting at game time.

LSU strikes first with some nice offloads and great phase play. Try Tigers! Conversion no good.

LSU with a strong defensive stand backed up on their goalline. They hold the ball up, 5m scrum to Baylor. And they get the turnover after another attempt by Baylor. Great defense by LSU.

Pressure has been relieved for now but Baylor has shown that they can be dangerous with the ball in space.

Baylor with a penalty tries a penalty kick into the wind, no good, LSU boots it downfield.

Kicking will be tricky out there with a strong wind.

Broken tackle by the wing by Baylor wing. Try in the corner. Tied up at 5-5.

LSU with a huge break but drop it a couple phases later. It's clear that not having any games in the past month has left the Tigers a little rusty.

Lol, touch judge gives Baylor player a yellow card for something, probably a high tackle. I hate it when touch judges try to be the big men on the field, though it works out for LSU this time. LSU will be a man up for the next 10 minutes.

LSU wins a war of attrition deep in Baylor territory and dots it down for the try.
10-5 Tiger lead. Conversion GOOD!

12-5 LSU

LSU on the attack again. Lineout to the Tigers just inside the Baylor 22.

Baylor yellow was for wing dropping a knee on LSU player on the deck. Well deserved yellow.

And LSU scores once again just before halftime. With the conversion, LSU now leads 19-5. The LSU offense seems to be waking up.

I expect that Coach Red and Coach Scott aren't happy with the team's performance so far. They will be lighting a fire under the Tiger's asses during half-time and hopefully LSU can clean up some sloppy play come 2nd half.

Now THAT was a terrible yellow. Prop blows guy up at ruck and gets yellow for driving the guy down field.

A yellow card to the Tiger tighthead for dangerous rucking puts LSU down a man early in the second half.

And another quick penalty for a high tackle. Baylor lineout up a man at the Tiger 22.

Important point in the match for Tigers.

WTF just happened, LSU looked like they just stopped while the Baylor player ran right through the defense, try for the Bears, conversion good, 19-12 Tigers with the lead still.

LSU with the ball starting to get the ball into their playmakers' hands. Offsides penalty on Baylor inside the Bear 22, LSU going to points. The kick is good.

22-12 LSU
