NO and NO.....even with these guys, Bama would have trucked us anyway.

what nobody seems to be taking into account in this thread is that if our defense is good enough, we won't need a better offense this coming season. Denvers offense was not good at all in super bowl and still won. So that is probably why Miles is saying we don't need to do better on offense in 2016 and can do the same things we always do.

But that's shortsighted, right? Look at how many pts ALA had to put up on Clemson to win the NC. Eventually you'll run into a situation (especially in college where every game is important) where you'll need to have an offense that can move the sticks...that can complete a screen pass...execute a kickoff properly. Otherwise, you'll need to be lucky.

Of course he wants better. I think he is talking about no revamped change of scheme.
IIRC, LSU O vs conf rank was 5th, Bama 4th while vs conf D was 8th and Bama 1st. Yet since tRant associates Miles with O, conveniently there lies the blame for LSU struggles.
Plenty to fix both sides of ball.

I disagree. Defense wins championships. We don't necessarily need a good offense if the defense is dominate.

Miles wants better from game to game, and surely wants better from returning starters. This would result in a better offense (in my world).
I agree to a point about D and NCs, but a good offense keeps a good D fresh and nice to be able to overcome a ST gaff, cover bust, pic6, or similar cheap TD.

I don't think a wholesale scheme change is in order but we have to develop and utilize a short passing game to loosen up defensive alignments against us. You can also include some wide runs such as the jet sweep or toss sweep. Use of TE on pass routes would help too.

Bottom line is we have all those plays - we just don't use them much and last year we could not execute the short pass game (i.e. Screens and flats).

We have the potential to be an incredible screen time. It was nice to finally see some HB screens at the end of last season.

We should be running, at a minimum, 3/game. I don't understand why we don't try it against Bama's pass rush

when one starting fb and a tight end make all the difference in your offense then you have an issue.

the jd moore thing was so overblown imo.

LSU needs to utilize all its weapons and be more creative. Period. You can't always enforce your will. LSU is great at enforcing their will on less talented teams.. but they struggle mightily vs equally talented teams.

Nope. This scheme hasn't produced a National Championship at LSU under Miles yet, and until it does I will be waiting. I'll believe it when I see it.

This 100%. We definitely have the plays in our playbook to have the diverse offense that people want. In fact, we saw this multiple times throughout the season. However, in the big games, I don't think the staff trusted the team to execute the full playbook. Hopefully, with Harris' growth the staff will entrust him to execute a full range of play calls in every game.

also people need to remember that LSU runs a very complex 'pro style' offense that takes a QB 3-4 years to really learn. The coaches are going to hold the reigns back on the offense until that time. This will be Harris 3rd year, so we may see more on offense this season, but it probably won't be until his 4th year that he really gets it and feels comfortable running the offense. It's just the normal progression any QB would go through in running such a complex system.

It's actually more complex than that. This offense is so awesome it may take 5 or 6 years to truly understand it.

You can't compare the college to the NFL. A college team can only endure one loss to have any hope for a national championship 99% of the time. A NFL team can drop multiple games and still win a Super Bowl.

No. Even with the premise that everyone is healthy all year, something that no team should expect, we won't improve with the same system. We would need the QB position to dramatically improve and for Miles not reverting back to one of his many issues. A few extra passes won't cut it.

I'm suggesting that to generate an additional 50 yards per game as the post I was replying to that LSU can accomplish that more with execution then dramatic scheme.

How many games have we sat through and witnessed wide open receivers over/under thrown or receivers drop balls not attributed to the D? Three more catches a game and three more series we change the entire complexion of a game.

I'm all about doing the things offensively to make the team more effective. I just don't thing a rewrite of the offense is necessary.

Sounds like the perfect system for a college offense. It looks so bland and simple and opposing coaches have no problem game planning for it, but it's actually complex and requires 3+ years to master. Wow.

No I do not believe the offense will be sufficient to win anything substantial. Les Miles offense has proven a failure against Saban. Don't see why this will change. If the defense can hold Bama under 17 LSU has a shot, but LSU will never score more than 17 on Bama.
