Isn't this the entire point of the article?

Definitely wouldn't want to burn scholarships on depth for the most important position in the game when you can use one for a backup kickoff specialist.

I kid... Sorta. The 85 isn't an issue at the moment, the per year limit is though.

Also, qb transfers are a rampant problem affecting everyone. It's not just an LSU thing. It's the reality of today's college football.

Things look promising at the QB position for LSU in the future. I am hopeful that Harris will seize his opportunity this season, then Franks joins the competition next season.

To address a few things said earlier: If Jennings won't play vs. McNeese, which appears a strong possibility, shouldn't McMillan be available for depth purposes? I don't see how you can say for sure that he will be redshirted.

I still remember those days when LSU had two capable QB's available--remember Hodson and Guidry, Bert Jones & Paul Lyons, and the #2 guy got to play a series of two each game. Now, the thinking seems to be we have to develop that chemistry, so we have to stick with just one guy--not sure how or why that changed over the years. I realize that seems to be the thinking in most every program, not just LSU

If we need a qb to beat Mcneese, we have far bigger problems than whether McMillan redshirts or not.

I think he meant won't we need a backup QB available for that game. I actually think LSU would be comfortable sending a walk on out with a large lead for one game.

Plus, can't Mcmillian take a limited number of snaps and still maintain a redshirt? They have gotten much looser on those and the transfer rules in the last 10 years.

It's mind blowing that receivers keep coming to play for LSU knowing that the QB position is always a question mark.

We always have a highly rated HS QB on the roster, often 2 or 3 - "performance" and "production" out of the position have been the problems, not the quality of athlete we recruit at the position (or, almost any position since Curley Hallman was fired).

No. That was under old rules. Once you play one play you cannot receive a Redshirt.

A player who "gets injured" may apply for a medical redshirt after playing.

If we put all of our eggs in one basket again and that QB gets hurt, and we start Andrew Hatch as the next LSU QB, I'm officially going to call it a day.

Thanks for clarifying what I meant--just thought a back-up QB might be needed. But I don't think you can take it for granted that LSU will take a 40-point lead (or something like that) into the fourth quarter vs. McNeese. The Tigers sometimes have trouble building up big leads against over- matched teams.

I am sure LSU most likely could get by without using McMillan for that game, even if, God forbid, something happens to Harris--if Jennings is not available.

when's the last time LSU used one qb? 2003? even before that we never used just one qb.

Wonderful. Because we've never been stuck in a terrible position because of lack of QB depth...

There is a reason why we are so weak consistently at QB. We have no depth. I hope this article is just a play on words, and that we aren't actually clearing the recruiting board of QB's for 2016. If Franks goes down, we'd have another 4-6 years of inept QB play. Great strategy...

Except we'll recruit a QB in '17 and '18 to build depth behind him. Not to mention McMillian will be a year ahead and can start after Harris if Franks still needs time to develop. Our depth will be just fine.

This. Thought Brandon Harris was the answer before he got to camp.

As for the "penance" comment, the only penance LSU is serving results from having a coaching staff that can't properly evaluate QBs in the recruiting process and/or develop them once they get here. LSU would be stupid to quit recruiting a QB for the 2016 class just because Franks is committed and might be the answer. Emphasis on "committed" and "might."

Wake me when this head coach gets his hands out of the offense and empowers his offensive coordinator to be able to do his job.

I don't care how good the kid is. It's not a good thing to do.

McMillan can play in the first game and then develop turf toe or some other type of injury and still redshirt. No big deal.

Then you were an idiot to place unrealistic expectations on a true freshman... and a bigger idiot for disregarding him after one year.
