The kid's progression at the position has pushed LSU to clear its 2016 quarterback recruiting board entirely. Think about that for a minute. Here is a school that many believe was just a quarterback away from winning multiple National Championships in recent years, whose fan base is ready to terminate the contract of any coach they deem partially responsible, and they are good with taking just one guy at the position.

That is a sign that LSU coaches not only feel that they got their guy, but they almost know it.

Last year there were some areas of his game that needed to be improved. Due to his height, he had an elongated stride that slowed his release time. He dropped his elbow often, did not keep the ball high enough and he did not have much rhythm as a passer. From what I witnessed during this camp, he has made great strides in each of these areas.

quote:

Franks was dropping dimes out there Friday, making throws that mirrored that of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who is the most accurate deep-ball thrower in today's game. His downfield touch was magnificent, he went through his progressions a lot quicker and he found that rhythm as a passer that he lacked just one-year ago.

God, I hope it translates to real time action. He's been working hard and I really hope it works out for us.

I'll believe it when I see it. All of our past quarterbacks were "awesome" in camps and all as well. See how that worked out.

In a year or two when the rant has brandon Harris as the QB of LSU, all you will hear about is how Franks is better and should be starting because Harris sucks.

Hopefully LSU has paid whatever penance we owed and can have some stud quarterbacks come in. It's mind blowing that receivers keep coming to play for LSU knowing that the QB position is always a question mark. I was shocked to see that we have signatures from the #1 wide receiver in back to back years. (Dupre and Johnson)

Franks is the best QB prospect we've signed (assuming he signs) out of HS since Perrilloux. Still, it's hard to get excited about any kid coming to LSU and making an impact immediately when we have years of data telling us otherwise. Unless Harris progresses significantly, we'll still be in trouble at QB for the next couple of years.

We still put WRs in the league, which is what matters most to elite recruits. It sounds stupid, but LSU receivers learn to block with the best of them and are usually ready to contribute immediately.

I hope it pans out, because not having other QB's sign or recruited could come back to bite LSU and Miles in the arse again.

Sounds like a recipe for another QB disaster. When will we learn?

I agree with the general sentiment here, but to say "always" is pretty ignorant. Mett did have an amazing year.

Despite the issues at the QB position, this is what LSU has to offer to recruits... 11 of the last 23 WRs to sign with LSU were drafted. Without doing the research, I'd venture to say that no other program can match that.

If I'm a GM evaluating prospects, and all things being equal in terms of route running, beating press coverage, and making the hard catches, I'm gonna take the WR who is willing to do this

Mett did have an amazing year, but you can't sit here and tell me you worry fully confident that he would have a great senior season.

I don't agree with taking just one QB, but if they can keep him out of jail and out of rehab (injury or otherwise), future looks great at LSU.

Well, LSU will have a Senior, a Junior, a Sophomore, and a Freshman all on scholarship at the QB position in 2016. That's enough depth right there.

McMillan will most likely redshirt

The best part is that I can't see a transfer risk among that group, either. Harris and Franks have multiple year starter written all over them and Jennings and McMillan (who I agree will redshirt barring injury), are program guys who will graduate here regardless of P/T... McMillan may even be a starter in the transition between Harris and Franks.

It sucks that we're evidently missing out on Narcisse, but I trust Cameron will find his guy in 2017 to go with Dinkelmann in 2018.

Receivers keep coming because they see a lot of previous receivers playing on Sunday's.
