I feel pretty confident that JOB will be leaving and Mickey will be staying. BUT weirder things have happened.

Why would you leave to go play European ball? I'd assume that staying in college gives him a better shot at making it to the NBA

Another year in college won't magically make JOB a lottery pick. If it hasn't happened yet, it won't. Now is the time to go for him IMHO.

JOBIII coming back to school mark my words. With 1 year of college left and not a sure bet to play in the NBA leaving is not an option.

Honestly it comes down to $$$. He has done everything that the NBA has asked but most do not believe it is enough. He can go to Europe and make 65k-100k (likely untaxed) next year, or come back to LSU. There will be more scouts here but at the end of the day, he would have to come preseason and tryout for a team. I don't really see what JOB could do to improve his stock at LSU another year. I guess defensively not fouling.

Besides that cutting down on turnovers but he won't be double teamed in the NBA like he is at LSU so that's not a huge issue.

If he doesn't wanna do Europe, he can do like that Justin Hamilton has done this year. Do D-League (salary between 12k and 24k) and hope to get a 10 day contract (worth around 60k) or two. Either way works, but Europe is definitely the safer bet.

I love how people think the NBA is the only way to make money in professional basketball...

A very respectable living can be made in worldwide playing basketball. Like I said earlier. 65k-100k is pretty normal for European leagues. Plus most places have untaxed incomes.... That is a very good living.

By midseason scouts were really starting to look at Mickey more than Martin. I forget which radio show I heard it on, but there was a scout who said that he came to an LSU practice to watch Martin, but left being wowed by Mickey. Martin probably has a higher ceiling than Mickey, but if any of those two were leaving this year it was going to be Mickey.

As for JOB, simple math tells you that he's leaving even if he hasn't said as much. LSU has got to make room for 2 extra players next year (maybe 3 depending on the Bridgewater situation, which admittedly I know very little about). I don't think the staff signs 4 this year thinking that they might have to essentially kick 2-3 guys off the team.

Fair enough. Then which two players aren't going to be on the team next season?

Honestly, you have to sign players looking at worst case scenario. Otherwise you have a Trent Johnson situation or Vanderbilt this year situation where you have 7 scholarship guys after 1 injury.

I think we came in knowing that Martin and JOB were possible 1 yr guys and Mickey could leave after 2 or so... If they all come back, that would be a blessing. The numbers would be difficult, but that would be a very awesome problem to have and one that I think Jones would fully embrace.

You'd have to look at Hammink as a possible transfer/walkon player. Also Bridgewater and maybe someone like Odo who hasn't panned out and only has 1 yr left in the program with very little upside.

***I also think JOB is leaving so this won't be as big of an issue, but we will see.***

well we know stringer and coleman are gone since they are seniors. I think it has been mentioned that banana would be moved to walk on. I could also see a situation where morgan is done at LSU. He wanted to transfer over the summer, he struggled bad all year until he got hurt. Now he has a bum knee, maybe he trasnfers and uses a redshirt at his new school to heal.

those 2 moves give us 4 scholarships open without mickey or job leaving

Odo would be the next guy id look at clipping from the roster

I agree completely. It's tough to pass up instant gratification as a college student, but I know he'll have a great chance to improve his long term trajectory by another year at LSU.

With this point of view, everyone other than Martin (who may yet develop into a high draft pick) should leave. Nobody else projects to even be drafted, outside of maybe Mickey and O'Bryant.

Or, maybe, the rationale should be: if you aren't a lottery pick, stay in school. Enjoy the time playing, take advantage of the scholarship, and see if you can progress any more in your sport.

JOB III needs to leave honestly. Given a summer of polishing Mickey and Martin can give you the points and rebounds you miss with JOB III. But at times this year he turned the ball over too much, and players looked afraid to shoot unless JOB III touched it first.

Before we signed Gray, I expected him to start day 1 at SG. Since Gray needs to be on the court, I think he'll split minutes there. Gray is a PG/SG, whereas Hornsby is a SG who can play SF like Morgan.

Yes, Elbert Robinson. I'm higher on him than most. He should be apart of the rotation but likely won't be starting. Needs to lose a good bit of weight, but will get minutes regardless.

I dont agree with lottery pick, but if you are a first round pick, you are guaranteed an NBA slot. In that case it's hard to say not to leave.

JOB is a developed player. If his personal opinion is he would rather play in Europe for 100k next year over playing in college for tuition, then he should go ahead and leave. Ball Players have a shelf life and making money while you can is important.

Some people enjoy school and playing college basketball where their is so much passion and emotion. Some would rather move on to a professional setting.
