No. I started going to Tiger games in 1958 as a 12 yr old. We won the NC, and graduated just a couple of players but no one critical except for our kicker who went to the SF 49ers. Name was Tommy Davis, who became all-pro. I was very confident going into the '59 season. We were undefeated when we beat Ole Miss with Cannon's punt return. I was sure we were home free. Next week at Tenn, we moved up and down the field with few points to show for it, including a missed a short fg(where are you Tommy Davis). But we held UT to a ridiculous showing on offense, so I was still confident. Then Cannon fumbled deep in our territory and they scored quickly. May have been the next series, UT intercepted a screen pass and scored. The Tigers got fired up and marched right down the field and scored, making it 14-13. Cannon was "supposedly" stopped short on the 2 pt try.

A side note: We lost the "do over" to Ole miss in the Sugar Bowl by the score of 21-0.

My point is this, you can be vastly superior and still lose in a number of ways. Injuries, bad calls, turnovers, ill timed penalties, etc.

Having said ALL THIS, I like our chances.

I'd agree the chance of winning the national championship is probably less than 50%, but not necessarily "waaaaaay" less.

It's waaaaaaay less.

Alabama, SEC championship game, and NC game (USC for example) on it's own should make this very obvious. Then you have to sprinkle in the rest of the SEC schedule.

I think just bout all like our chances and it's easy as a fan to get carried away with expectations since we don't have to make any plays between the lines to help meet those expectations, but this is the SEC which is home to the last 6 NCs and not the ACC, Big 10, or PAC 10.

I expect to compete for SEC and NCs, but I have never started the season with 100% expections of winning one.

My plan is to try and enjoy the season as much and as far as LSU will go. I stopped expecting anything after 1/9, because I truly expected the #1 ranked team to come out and play like it.

I think LSU will win it all this year, but I do not expect us to go undefeated doing it. When a team goes undefeated in the previous year, it very hard to duplicate that effort the next year.

i dont even start hoping/thinking about a NC until after the LSU game yearly. its one game at a time for us.

That's the biggest load of bullshite I've ever seen posted here. Bama fans were expecting a NC every year even when Shula was coaching.

I FULLY expect to be competing for a NC. Simply because when I look at our Tigers, knowing what we are capable of simply from our running game, our defense and our special teams, I truly believe we are on par with anyone in the nation. Add a Qb who can actually find the open recievers, and I do not see anyone who can stop us. After week 9 last season, we won our games with our running game, defense and special teams. Add a passing attack capable of 200-250 yards of offense to that...who can keep up with us???

hubris is what kills the mightiest of heros.

i humbly hope for the best, and i will support my coach and players thru the roughest of times.

it's great to have all the insane fanatics forecasting perfection, for they can forecast it nowhere else.

s.c. is picked to win the sec by many.
al is capable of shutting our mouths.
au is an incredibly lucky team.
fl and msst are definitely trap games.
ark is in ark.
a loss to wa would end the season.

HUBRIS is not realism.
be careful and enjoy the season. lsu is a great football team and if it choses the path of humility, it will win. when the players think of themselves as invincible (like ranters), they will die.

I predicted a loss or two last year and that '12 would be the year LSU should win the NC. The team definitely surprised me last year, and I hope they don't this year.

We will definitely contend. I hate to start ranked #1, as every one it out for u. It would make some teams year to upset LSU.

Honestly, I think the ranking shouldn't matter this year because everyone will be gunning for us anyways.

Nope, one or two key injuries and we'll be fortunate to win 10. After the soul crushing defeat in the BCSNCG I take nothing for granted any more.

This year it's BCS title or bust

My thoughts exactly. worried about bama and ark last year in reg season and hoped for another Cotton Bowl or Cap One knowing 2012 was for all the marbles.
