As fans, we should not share the same expectations as those on the field of play.

As stated earlier, fan is short for fanatic.

Definition of fanatic:

quote:

A person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal

This goes hand in hand with idiocy.

Furthermore, I don't think is wrong to expect a national championship as a fan, that's what fans do.

Is it silly and unrealistic?... certainly.

However, I think it's absurd to call anything short of national title a failure despite how disappointing it might be.

That's not right or fair.

Just my opinion.

don't expect anyone to believe, but 2003 was my first time I thought we had a strong chance in a lont time, and 2007 was the first time I predicted it.

2012 will once again fall in the 2007 category.

14-0 is a strong possibility. The team and the depth and the schedule and the hunger all seem to be in place

I don't "100% expect" to win the NC.

This. I expect to win the NC with the assumption that Mett is as good as advertised. If he is subpar, it will be an uphill battle this year.

The team expects to win it all, so I expect them to win it all.

LSU may have the best chance compared to other teams, but the chances of winning it all are waaaaaay less than 50%

Maybe, but it's not as complicated as it might seem.

Chances that the SEC Champion will win the NC game (provided they are playing a non-SEC team): Have to be pretty good.

Chances that the SEC West Champion will win the SEC Championship: Also very good.

Chances that the LSU-Alabama winner will win the SEC West: Almost 100%

So, the chance that we will win the national championship is not all that far below the chance that we will win the Alabama game, which I rate as higher than 50%. I'd agree the chance of winning the national championship is probably less than 50%, but not necessarily "waaaaaay" less.

I actually predicted them to go undefeated last year but that was probably just the posi-tiger in me coming out...but yo answer the question, yes, I think its just the natural expectation of tiger nation since we dominated so much last year and only get better on offense and hardly drop off on defense..if there's any drop off at all..

the fact that bama has 14 might make it "seem" that easy but it really isnt.

You never really know what will play out, but I love the position we are in. Every year we are competing for a title.

Rummy wants to call fans idiots for expecting an nc, yet he's the one responsible for the fricking gay 95 page optimism thread

2007 was my first year with that expectation. This is the first since then.

Exactly the argument I had with an LSU friend of mine the other day over Email.

LSU had a ridiculously high Turnover ratio last year and you cannot always rely on that. Also, say what you want about the QBs last year....at least they protected the ball. LSU was outgained in 4 games last year but in three of those, they dominated the turnover margin and won them. All it takes is one game to dash national title hopes.

IMO, the 2011 Tiger team vastly overachieved.

I think its insane for any SEC fan base to "expect" to roll through the SEC and win a national title.

I think the SEC as a whole is stronger top to bottom this year so I don't see how you can say LSU has an easier conference schedule? SC, UF, UT, and UGA will all be improved in the East. Miss St and Auburn should improve this year as well.
I agree with everything you said except:

I try not to drink the purple kool-aid, but you can't read about LSU football without being drowned in the stuff.

I expect for this year nothing less than a crystal trophy at the end of the season as a reward for going undefeated.
