collins, kwon, Rasco, Hunter, R Robinson, Q. Thomas. Throw in the Mills with his injury for most of the season. Not the same unit.

Saban saw his recruiting prowess in him, and thats what he hired him as. and he paid him 900k a year to do just that...
let me ask you this question...If Kirby Smart would have left do you think Saban would have given Steele the DC job at Alabama?...
Thats what I thought...
And if you said yes, then i cant help you, you cant fix stupid you can only hope it doesn't breed.

honestly, I think we're trying to shift to a 3-4, and our linebackers and lineman that we have just aren't big enough right now. I think we're gonna get the guys that we need to have a dominant defense, so this wasn't going to be the year for Steele.

This is fricking unacceptable (and we haven't even played Ole Miss or A&M yet!):
Scoring Defense – 50th (10th in SEC)
Rushing Defense – 27th (7th in SEC)
Passing Defense – 45th (8th in SEC)
Total Defense – 28th (6th in SEC)
Opp. 3rd Down % - 42nd (8th in SEC)
Opp. 4th Down % - 57th (7th in SEC)
Opp. Red Zone % - 119th (LAST in SEC)
Sacks – 47th (6th in SEC)
TFL – 88th (10th in SEC)
We aren't good at ANYTHING on defense. There is nothing to hang out hats on. Steele is a disaster. Period.
We aren't top 5 in the SEC a single defensive category and we're 10th in scoring defense and we haven't exactly played offensive juggernauts. Think about that.

This by damn! What a terrible hire and not even in hindsight. I scratched my head when he was announced as the new DC.

Q Thomas was injured last year and we have him this year. Between his suspension and his dismissal, Robinson hardly played last year. I'll give you the Mills injury. I still disagree with you, though. I think that the talent is roughly equivalent on this team. The units are virtually the same.
That being said, even if you think the defense is vastly different, Steele's job was to get those guys ready to play and put them in a position to be successful. I don't think he succeeded in those goals by any measure.

Coaching malpractice. Les Miles should be fired solely for this if that is the excuse. Why are you switching horses when you have two linebackers that can play on your entire roster and no one that can play a nose?

I don't see how anyone with a functioning brain can look at the numbers I just posted and say Kevin Steele should stay at LSU. We have become a bottom of the barrel SEC defense one year removed from #1 total defense (and top 10 scoring) in the entire country.
He should have never been hired in the first place and will cost Les Miles his job.

Cameron has to go, too, then. Total offense is like 80. Without Fournette, we'd be an Ivy league offense.

I agree with you and holy cow those stats are alarming. All of those with an equally inept offense is a disaster. frick

to be fair, 5 teams in the east get to play Missouri and Vanderbilt.

If anything is embarrassing it's our passing numbers. At least Steele has an excuse.

More blasphemy: busted coverages became more common when Raymond came in. Remember his first year & the "communication" issues.
He's the most overrated coach on staff. Not the worst, but definitely the most overrated since he got here. Huge downgrade from Cooper.

On many occasions we agree and you know I thought Steele was gonna suck but I'm not sure LSU was gonna get anyone with Les appearing to be at such odds with the AD. I don't even remember any other names in real consideration. The only name I remember even being talked about was Manny Diaz.
Alleva seemed to have a hard fast plan last year: force Mile's hand in adapting to the landscape around him (offensively, imo) or moving one step closer to forcing Miles resignation. Alleva looks on his way to getting what he wanted and he better have one hell of plan for a HC replacement. The mob is fickle at LSU and if he forces Les out and doesn't produce, LSU fans and media are gonna torch him.

Considering he wouldn't ok the firing and buyout of Crowton in 2009, and he's probably the reason we lost Chavis (though I do think it was time to move on) and not one of his hires in other sports except maybe the most recent bball hire has produced, he should already be catching flack.
Oh and then there's Duke lacrosse.

exactly. i played corner as long as i played football. i would rather play man all day, every day, even if im up shite's creek without a paddle against calvin johnson.
18-20 year old kids, no matter how talented, would rather cover a man than an are of the field. i always felt like i was having to play with eyes in the front, back, sides, and top of my head when i played zone. i know my assignment in man, just let me go. i don't mind mixing some in and we need to with little depth to rush the passer, but these guys have been fricking up way too often. i thought we'd play more man when mills got back but it feels like we haven't
steele's track record says he's a meh coach, but all that matters are the jimmies and joes!

Chavis was basically forced out by Alleva. This shitshow unfolding before our eyes is squarely due to his incompetence. The offense is a joke and now Les has no defense to bail him out.
Steele has been a miserable failure everywhere. What makes anybody think different football players will make him any better?
And if Aleva has to name the next head football coach-may God have mercy on our souls. This loser is in way over his head.
