Aranda struggle this year because LSU changed their offensive scheme to a hurry up offense. No way the defense could be on the field that much and anyone should expect the same level of play they had the year before.

He's been an excellent DC at every stop where that was his position with the exception of when he took over the one year at Nebraska. Even when he was limited with some shitty Miles hires for position coahces, he put up top 3 defenses at LSU and OU.

He had Earl Lane as a DL coach here. He had Mallory as a DB coach AND Peveto as a LB coach splitting time with the special teams.

He's going to have a hell of a lot better set of assistants at LSU now this go around.

That said, we'll see how things turn out, but he has every opportunity to be as good as both those guys.

Aranda was honestly quite underwhelming given his hype and how much people lauded him. He was nowhere near as good as some would like to believe.

pelini may or may not be a better dc than aranda or venables, but he's in the upper echelon of dcs.

he was a much better than average coach at nebraska. actually did a great job there.

So now you’re moving the goal posts as well as projecting. You’re the one who used the standard of “players they coached” now you wanna reject it because it goes against your narrative. And you’re the one using speculation as fact then attacking me for not subscribing to that fantasy. Thanks for proving my point.

Sweet, you're a fricking dumbass and one of my least favorite people on the Rant.

Since we're playing the PPG game:

Pelini: 5, 4, 17 (8.66 avg)

Aranda: 5, 15, 39, 29 (22 avg)

What do YOU define as "significantly better?" Shut the frick up and go be miserable somewhere else

So your points as stated are

-opinion
-make believe
-opinion
-opinion
-opinion

Basically your entire mindset is “if you don’t agree with me you’re a moron, retard, dumbfrick.”

Rantard irony is never in short supply. Thanks for the ignorance.

How about this. You tell me the criteria that can be applied to both and we’ll use that.

The easiest criteria that can be applied to both would be to compare players drafted immediately following Aranda’s first 3 years to players drafted immediately after Pelini’s 3 years at LSU.

That means Tyson Jackson doesn’t count for Pelini and Delpit, Fulton, Queen, etc. don’t count for Aranda.

You’ll find Aranda had more players drafted. He also had more 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks.

Time will tell if he is better than those two. If he brings to the table what he did the last time he was at LSU then yes he will be as good. Mid way through this season many on these boards were questioning Aranda's ability to be our DC.

Well. You can argue about the stout talent that Aranda was surrounded with and we gave up a ton of yards and points this year....sooooo apples to apples he’s as good or better....

Pelini- first team All-SEC: Ali Highsmith (AP and Coaches) 2007
Kelvin Sheppard (AP and Coaches) 2010

How does Tyson Jackson not count when of all the players who played for Pelini at LSU his sack total was the single season best under Pelini? He played under Pelini in all but 1 of his years in college. And Aranda was here longer so of course he’ll have slightly more players drafted.

He can count if Delpit, Fulton, Phillips, Lawrence, and the rest of the guys that started on last years defense counts for Aranda.

That’s fair.

Let’s see, he had better ranked defenses than Arranda. He also had at least nine wins a season at Nebraska.

Of course, I never meant to imply that those guys wouldn’t be drafted only that we don’t know exactly where all of this years eligible players would be. It’s also hard to ignore that Kyle Williams was taken in the 5th round but was not only an LSU great but an NFL All-Pro and multi time Pro-Bowl player. So draft position doesn’t tell the full story especially when it comes to college value or production. Also remember that Aranda was here for a year longer than Pelini so he’s going to have more players drafted automatically.
