He was an average HC at best during his days at Nebraska and Youngstown. But now that he has only defense to worry about, is he going to be just as good or better than DA/BV?

It could be argued that during his tenure at LSU, his defenses were of the same caliber.

No. But he's better than 90% of other DCs.

If he can field a top 30 defense next year he will have done better than Aranda did this year.

He was a good head coach at Nebraska. Never lost more than 4 games and had at least 9 wins during his tenure. He was let go because he's a maniac lol. With that being said I don't see a drop off from Aranda to Bo. The scheme will be different but it will be nasty. Venables is one of the best.

He averaged 9 wins a year at a school in the middle of nowhere. Big Red has not been so big since.

Not sure, LSU had a decade of 1st round NFL lineman talent which was a staple of his defense. Not sure we currently have that on the roster.

The good thing is, if Bo is any good, he's likely to retire as an LSU DC, than pursue any HC opportunities!

Honestly, Nebraska was better after he arrived and worse after he left.

Not every school is capable of being taken to the top.

He hasn't been a DC in 14 years. Who the frick knows how he stacks up in the context of those two?

He's a solid hire.

He was a better HC than people gave him credit for. He had Nebraska at 9-win avg. and when they let him go, the program tanked off.

He was a very good DC. I think he is as good a coach as Aranda is. We will be going back to a 4-3 which I think fits LSU better than the 3-4 scheme Aranda preferred.

Is he better than Venables? No. No one is at the DC spot. The guy has been lights out for well over a decade.

How many dc's are better than aranda and Venables?

If that's your standard than you were set up for disappointment no matter what
