I’ll repeat what I said in the other thread:
quote:

Put it this way, I think Pelini will have better defenses here (this go-around) than Aranda did.

And that was his only good year. The season after taking over he gave up 28.5ppg. The season after the one you’re talking about was the start of his 4 year run I listed before, all between 23-29ppg.

LOL.

His 2010 defense finished 9th in ppg and 11th in total defense.

You’re correct that was also a very good defense.

Lol Pelini had 3 top 6 NFL draft picks along with the single most decorated defensive player in LSU history. Besides corner Pelini has the advantage in talent at every single position group. The talent isn’t even comparable, neither are the eras.

Players coached by Pelini that were drafted in the top 3 rounds:

Claude Wrotten
Laron Landry
Glen Dorsey
Chevis Jackson
Tyson Jackson

Players coached by Aranda that were drafted in the top 3 rounds (during his first 3 years):

Jamal Adams
Tre White
Duke Riley
Kendall Beckwith
Donte Jackson
Arden Key
Devin White
Greedy Williams

Players Aranda coached this year that will likely be drafted during the top 3 rounds:

Grant Delpit
K'Lavon Chaisson
Kristian Fulton
Patrick Queen
Derek Stingley
Tyler Shelvin

It could be argued that during his tenure at LSU, his defenses were of the same caliber.

Oh really? When did Aranda do this?
"During Pelini's three years as LSU defensive coordinator under then-coach Les Miles from 2005-07, the Tigers ranked third nationally on defense all three years. In two of those season, LSU ranked atop the Southeastern Conference in defense."

I agree. I’m a huge fan of the hire. I think he fits right in with what coach O is trying to do at LSU. Just don’t bring a tape recorder into his office lol.

He was the Aranda of the early 2000s. Whether he still has the mojo remains to be determined.

The first two lists are absolute matters of fact. Do you not agree?

Tell me which players you think won't get drafted in the top 3 rounds from the 3rd list. I'll give you maybe Shelvin but the remainder are all forgone conclusions.

Pelini had a better DL by a long shot

Aranda has better LBs by a looooong shot

DBs are a push favoring Aranda.

No they’re not, you’re missing players drafted in the 3rd or above that Pelini coached like Drake Nevis and Kelvin Sheppard off the top of my head. You’re also ignoring great players like Kyle Williams. As far as your upcoming draft speculation it doesn’t matter who we disagree on, neither of us know so you including them just proves your pattern of detaching from fact whenever it suits you.

Didn't read all the bullshite, but since tRant is arguing against it, I'll say he is comparable. Put together tough arse Ds here during our run in 05, 06 and 07

Let’s break em down. How are we categorizing them? Guys he coached or what they did in both coach’s defenses?

Neither of those players started during 2007. I also didn't count guys like Kary Vincent, Jacob Phillips, Jacoby Stevens, Rashard Lawrence, Glenn Logan and guys like Hampton, Ika, Brooks, and other true freshmen with promise on the 2019 team.

I didn't ignore him. He wasn't drafted in the top 3 rounds.

It absolutely matters. I'd know I'm dealing with someone that insists on being unreasonable if you believe any of them besides Shelvin are likely to fall outside of the top 3 rounds.
