He wasn’t an average coach. He had Nebraska in the Top 25. As For Being DC He’s got many talented players to work with. There’s also a lot a DC can do with Derek Stingley and more great corners. He can call more risky defenses. It took a while before Venables became Venables.

Average at best? Wow, There must be a lot of undefeated coaches to bring the average up to...

He was a better HC than people gave him credit for. He had Nebraska at 9-win avg. and when they let him go, the program tanked off.

Not to mention, Mack Brown and UT fricked him out of a B12 championship.

He is as good as them.

The difference is usually talent.

All three would look amazing with Clemson DL in 2018.

I would Say defense is 80% talent 20% coaching.

A good coach will go far with great talent than a great coach will with just good talent.

I am excited that we will be going back to the 4-3 defense.

I don't know, but they were co-DCs together at OU back in 2004 whenever USC hung 55 up on them in the BCS title game.

And let's not forget Venables' defense allowed Canada's offense at Pitt hang 43 on him back in 2016. They won the CFP that year. This is the same year Clemson let Lamar Jackson's Louisville team score 31; LSU held them to 9 points in the bowl game.

Point is...who knows, but Venables has a lot of bad games. Go look at their record over the years. Lots of 35-40+ point games during Clemson's golden years stretch.

Can't say for sure.

But I bet his career numbers stand up well next to theirs.

He is not as smart or cerebral as Aranda, or as good at adjusting.

That being said, I've always preferred the aggressive style to Aranda's.

LSU's defense was 5th in the nation when you factor in the strength of schedule

Total Defense is a laughable stat. See Utah, Buffalo, & San Diego State

I thought he was a great DC when he was at LSU. Hindsight could be 20/20 though. But outside of the 2 OT loses in the 2007 season, I thought LSU was pretty damn stout on defense while Pelini was the coordinator.

I am sure someone will disagree and clear it up for me.

OK So you stacked the 3 seasons leading up to the 2007 game. How about showing the 3 leading up to this years CFP for Aranda.

While it is a bad look to just show 2019 for Aranda, 2005-2007 were the only three years Pelini was at LSU.

Wasn't a stack to show the lead up to that one season...it was his entire tenure here.

Though, to strengthen his argument, he definitely needs to include more than just this past season for Aranda.
