Neither were available for LSU 2020.

But... Pellini may be the best hire LSU could have made.
He is an excellent recruiter and the players love him. His defenses were salty during his tenure. (Mainly due to talent IMO)

I trust the process and what O wants to do.

Never mind.

Well he’s been stopping all those vaunted ACC offenses. So there’s that!

Aranda was a good DC. I have no idea where everyone gets that Aranda was a Great DC? None of the numbers support that as his D got worse each year. I know for a fact from folks that talk directly to O that he got more involved after Ole Miss and demanded that the D be more aggressive and Blitz more.

His abrasiveness got him fired at Nebraska. He is a good football coach. Maybe being a coordinator suits him best.

How many dc's are better than aranda and Venables?

Just curious, where has Venables coached that he didn't have superior talent to the rest of the league?
He didn't fare very well vs Saban/LSU when he was at Oklahoma.
His defense vs LSU wasn't the most successful we saw this season.
What makes him great? Was it his game vs Alabama last season?

The good thing is, if Bo is any good, he's likely to retire as an LSU DC, than pursue any HC opportunities!

I disagree with this. I believe the only reason he is taking this job is to come in and hopefully he gets another opportunity at a bigger school than where he was at (Youngstown St)

Aranda had Top 10 defenses multiple years

What do you mean by "significant"?

Do you find the difference between top 5 and top 20 to be significant?

I do.

Burrow admitted after the game that they never did figure out where the blitzes were coming from

I'd say that's a pretty good endorsement

Nope. Not even close.

Forget the numbers in 2007. Our defense wasn't close to that 2003 defense.

I'd say multiple Top 10 defenses are pretty damn good. 2019 is still TBD because they are essentially 5th when you factor in the strength of schedule.

Yeah but neither of those guys were on the 2003 coaching staff so what's your point?

Lol, that’s what I love about the rant, you can always find posts that have the exact opposite of the truth in them with the poster being 100% confident about posting it.

It remains to be seen. I'm afraid college offenses have changes so much since the mid 2000s that we can't really know.

What I do find comforting is that Corey Raymond likes him enough to have gone to Nebraska with Pelini as his secondary coach in 2011.

Corey's defensive backs are the cornerstone of LSU's defense IMO so I think it's safe to say Corey is onboard with this hire. From Wikipedia Pelini's pedigree is DBs and linebackers so I assume Coach O is planning to keep Bill Johnson for DL, Pelini will have LBs, Corey will have corners and maybe safeties, depending on if Busch is retained.

So for cohesion and addressing the hole Aranda left I think it looks good on paper.

Aranda had 1 top 10 defense in 4 years at LSU.

Pelini had 3 top 5 defenses in 3 years at LSU.
