If this is the wrong board I apologize.

I'm planning on setting up my own tailgate for the first time this weekend if my speaker arrives. If not the gf and I will be walking around with chairs and drinks. I've always parked on Nicholson but, this time I'll be parking in the game by game parking area by the parade grounds. It'll be much easier to move my stuff that way. I read it opens at 4am but what's a good time to get a good spot? Also, what's the proper etiquette on picking a spot to set up at. I realize some people have been in the same spot for years and I don't want to be a dick.
Thanks for any advice.

If it looks like a great spot, someone has been tailgating there for years, and you should move on to a crappier spot.

I would recommend you not tailgate the first game and just kind of cruise around the area that interests you...make a mental note of what areas are crowded with tailgaters and which ones aren't and mingle a bit with folks in the area...if a space is not taken on the first home game, I would consider it available...then, you can set up next game and be pretty well established by the time the SEC schedule starts...

What those guys said + show up a little late for the first game. Then you know whatever spots you see are available aren't taken (by anyone serious enough to get their early for the 1st game at least). Then you can call it your own and show up as early as you want for the next game - and do because its a pain in the friggin arse to get in late and setup.

bullshite.

First come, first serve.

Public property paid for by taxpayers.

Get there early and set up wherever the frick you want to. If the long-termers are too fricking lazy to get there before you, due to some delusional entitlement syndrome, tell them to kiss your arse. You own that property as much as they do.

Clean up after yourself. Most of the old school people do.

Problem solved.

Enjoy your day.

First game of the season is a good time to stake your claim on a good spot. Go for it.

Thanks for the responses. Will I be able to get a parking spot by the parade grounds in the paid spots if I arrive around 8-9?

I knew someone would say that. She'll be with me Saturday so, no. Sorry.

I might not have a choice if the speaker doesn't arrive. I like your idea of checking out spots early though.

Haha. You're a 100% correct but, I'd rather not be a dick to the neighbors IF I can avoid it.

Of course.

You might not. I dunno how far away you live from campus, but back when I used to tailgate a lot we would park a car the night before with all out stuff in it.

I'm not as demonstrative as he...but, what is incorrect? It truly is a "first come gets the spot" proposition.

There was a time in my life where I actually cared about this but not anymore.
Day games, shitty arse opponents, not living in BR anymore, increased tailgating costs ... I don't care.
Not worth the hassle to me any longer.

Ill make more road trips this season than trips to BR.
TCU, uga, ole miss, Alabama and possibly Atlanta.
Fla and AM only home games I see me making.

However I will say having this FU attitude....ill set up wherever I want is prob not the best most enjoyable option... Unless of course you're just an obnoxious prick.by nature and people hate you in general.

I agree with this. No reason to be a prick about it.

But, most legit tailgates are set up on Friday night. If you didn't set up your tent/spot on Friday, then you really don't care too much and are pretty much subject to losing said spot.

For bad non conference games yes, Sometimes the spots don't fill up for the entire day since they started charging for parking there.

as someone who tailgates in that area the only good thing about paying is that spots are taken up way later than the old days. if you showed up at 8-9 it would be enough time to find a spot and see who else is set up in what spots.

congrats on being a great human being i wished everyone thought this way.

basically don't set up in a place that already has a tent frame or some kind of space holder. our krewe usually gets out btwn 6:30 and 7:30. but honestly if someone isn't at a spot by 9 eff 'em. there isn't a long time tailgater around us that isn't out there by 9 so i would think it's pretty fair game.

I would suggest setting up a tent frame on Friday evening or night. I get off of work at noon on Friday's so I set up my tent and leave it overnight to hold our spot. From my observation last year there were a few trees left around the area you are talking about. Also the first game wait and see option might not be a bad idea. Hope it sets up nice for you.

just be advised that putting out a tent frame on friday before classes end is a bad idea.

facility services would love to add yours to their collection.

i would also not put a tent out for the first game. come scope your spot on the first game and after you secure it, start doing the tent thing in subsequent weeks.

Just adopt the "don't be a dick" rule of etiquette. Most people that have "spots" have been there for years so they know you need to be there by a certain time. Is it just you and your gf and a speaker? Do you have a group?

seconded.

also a good question. life is easier with a group. we'll gladly assimilate others looking to just tailgate.

on the good side if it is just you and her finding a spot will be easier b/c you won't take up much space.
