By my count

8 - # of times Chavis saved LSU's arse
7 - # of times Chavis bent over for opponent
4 - # of times the offense saved Chavis's arse
4 - # of times the opponent saved Chavis's arse
2 - # of times an "effort play" saved Chavis's arse

Forget it AlaTiger. Unless you blame Miles for every loss the idiots here will just jump all over you and kiss Chavis' arse. If you have been around here longer than a couple of hours you should know that Miles is the cause of every loss for the last 10 years. Every fumble, interception, EVERY player foul up is Miles fault. You have to understand this to be able to post here.

We averaged almost 40 ppg that year. The defense was great, but it was not winning all of our games for us.
The "team" averaged that, because of the defense. Our offense was very talented but sub par. Our defense was one of the best ever, and probably the best defense in the country that year.

I never said he wasn't.

My point was simply that he was not the sole reason LSU won so many games. And, his defense lost more than a few.

They couldn't get 3rd down stops.
In addition to this, it seems like they NEVER kept the opponent to a 3-and-out when backed up inside their own 10-yard line.

Lost to Alabama 21-17. Gave up 14 points at end of each half. Chavis' fault.

WTF????? That's on Miles.... His playcalling was mediocre at best.....

uh no the defense gave up at least 10 yards a play on bamas final drive. that cant happen. especially if you have one of the best in the country.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lost to Ole Miss 27-24 with a game ending FG by Ole Miss. Defense couldn't get a stop. On Chavis.

Aagain I blame Miles for not having his team ready to play a depleted Ole Miss team.. Again Mett had a bad game and you blame it on Chavis????

could you not say that chavis didn't have his defense ready to play? we couldn't get a damn stop the whole damn game.

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lost to Alabama 20-13. On Chavis for total defensive meltdown at the end.

You blame chavis for kicking the ball out of bounds????

again you have one of the best defenses in the nation you would think that you could hold a team from scoring since they had done so most of the night.

listen I think chavis did great here but on drives where it was all or nothing chavis never did to well.

Why can't we just wait at least one season to evaluate whether or not we've improved defensively? Bashing Chavis' defenses at this point under the circumstances just makes people come off as butthurt and delusional. His defenses were wonderful! He may indeed be an arse for departing the way he did, but just bashing the good job he did makes you come off negatively.

Let's just leave it in the past and pray the defense stays just as good or improves under Steele.

I am totally with you on this... I do remember in 2012 our D helped us beat SC in TS but got totally abused by Ole Miss. Thankfully we had Beckham and Mettenburger to out score them for the win.

Chavis was a non factor at best and a guy who didn't like to recruit. He shut down Johnny Football though. Gotta give him props for that.

Chavis defenses' had their faults, but are you seriously going to credit him with one win from 2011? In a season where we had below replacement-level quarterback play for an entire season?

Come on, mayne. Here's to hoping our new hires perform even better, but don't revise history to suit your own purposes. And yes, the defensive talent was amazing, but Chavis put them in a position to succeed more often than not.

So, you're saying the guy who gave up 70 points to WVU is the solution to this problem?

In 2011, with the best defense in school history, Chavis allowed just as many yards to WVU as Steele did with a ho-hum Clemson D (based on players drafted).

But Chavis didn't have to contend with his team's offense giving up the ball 4 times.

In every game that we won, our defense stopped the other team more than we scored. So Chavis' defense gets a little credit in every win.

but this one is definitely not his fault

Clemson was 4th and like 20 something from inside their on 20, as I recall, in the final min. and converted. Clemson converted on like 50% on 3rd down and had like 260 yds of O in the 1st 1/2. Our pass D game up like 370 for the game.

Our O struggled in that game, but so did our D.

In games where the Defense had to get a stop at the end to win or the defense actually mattered, under Chavis LSU was 6-12.

Serious question... why was it not on the offense to score in those situations?

In many of those scenarios, the defense was on the field last.
