Coaching Staff: A+ He retained Aranda, hired one of the best OC's in college football, and added an outstanding recruiter recently.

Recruiting for 2017 class: B+ He did really well keeping the recruits we had and adding some great ones. However, would have been nice getting another RB and holding on to more LA players. Still great job considering a coaching change.

Recruiting for 2018 class: A+ so far. He has the top rated SEC class and over 10 commits already. Very exciting.

Roster management: B- He has lost some players like Andy Dodd and Brandon Harris while not bringing in any Grad Transfers yet. This can change if he finds some grad transfers to bring in.

Overall he is doing a great job so far and I will give him his due.

Players leave because they aren't going to.....play

I do not consider that a negative

Arden Key will be the difference in 1 or 2 losses vs. wins next year IMO.

He's going to be that good.

O needs to make sure he returns then give him a full time baby sitter.

Just an FYI on roster management, but we had to lose some players to transfer, and will have to lose more, especially if we add a transfer or 2. We would have been over the 85 limit when the rest of our 2017 class hits campus before Harris and Dodd decided to transfer.

I dont consider losing Dodd or Harris important at all. Neither was a starter or going to be. Which is why they both transferred.

Well if he adds some quality grad transfers he will get a bump.

Considering the position he was put in, he has done a REMARKABLE job!

Not knowing if he would even get the permanent position and being able to maintain #7 recruiting class, keep the #1 defensive coordinator and hire #1 offensive coordinator hires for past two years (as rated by independent sources) - don't know the source, but did read it somewhere.

yeah, that is certainly a "sunny" evaluation of Da Coach O.
Aranda was already here on contract. He was extended, which is very good b/c Aranda is a top 5 DC and the biggest new name at that slot.
Canada appears to have been a 3rd or 4th choice, after O, in a HUGE bit of luck missed on his first choice, Kiffen.
Very good recruiting class , but Miles had a tip 5 class before he was fired. O held the class together, which is very good for a new coach, but the flip side is that he was already recruiting coordinator for that class. Moreover, Austin Thomas saved the class for Da Coach O by getting Phillips at the last moment and Jacoby Stevens.
The biggest test will be whether O has the organizational skills to convert this to wins.
Jury is still out.

I don't know. Not having a permanent dline coach or special teams coach doesn't get an A+.

Don't see how this is possibly true.
We have one known stud on the roster. The rest are unknown and not especially "high ceiling" guys.

I agree with the OP though.
I was not exactly pumped about the hire, but he has done about as well as could possibly be expected thus far. We'll know all we need to know about O after this season.

Agreed. Understand missing on Wilson at DT, but NOT bringing in at least 1 other RB was a miss. No other way to say it. Guice and Williams will be gone after this season. Hopefully Brossette returns in 2018, and you have your 17/18 new guys. Depth is no doubt a concern.

Had he landed David Johnson as WR coach and not having a special teams coach gives him an A. If we get the 10th coach rule and he hires the saints former Special Teams Coordinator he drops to an A-.

I see these as plusses not negatives. Clapp (I presume will be center next year) is better than Dodd by a landslide and you can say that Harris would have been beaten out by Etling for the starting job. Replace these guys with transfers at OT(Clemsons former) and DLine (Texas Tech guy) and this is an A+. Still time to get transfers in..

I give him an 'A' but I constructively offer this criticism: He, his staff & LSU (the top decision makers as well) must empower the CFB teams offensive skills, execution accuracy, eliminate penalties entirely and do so without fail in a prompt professional manner especially versus Alabama.

I will never understand how you guys can grade the No. 7 class as anything but an A. Especially when the class addresses our biggest needs.
