I think that the inexperience and just finding the right rotation is the main two things right now.

Its in no way an execuse or Im saying anything bad about it, we lost a lot on the D to the NFL, we all knew there would be growing pains. All of a sudden certain guys are terrible, slow, and weak.

No our DB's are huge, the broadcaster in the first week said it was the most phtyiscally gifted DB group he has seen in college in a long time, and that some pro teams arent even as big.

Have no doubt our D-Line is doing there job with Coach haley, and the LB will get better in Chief I trust.

The DB's job when he reads this is to yell & warn the DE or LB of the crack block. It also depends on the coverage, if the DB is backed off or playing the WR tight. It helps also if the DE gets some upfield movement.

With the SEC games that have already been played. I'm not seeing dominate D play from anyone team. If anything most D's seem to be getting gashed. What do you guys think?

Uga has bigger problems on d than us. We may start a true freshman at corner that game because he is an elite talent

Uga is currently starting a true freshman at corner #4 because of lack of bodies. He is hot garbage and has given up something like 5 passing TDS in two games.

Yes. LBers are in wrong position. DB's are really struggling to take right angles and cover.

Big Ed, you are right. #4 Langley for Georgia is their soft spot on D. I think Carolina had 2 or 3 TDs on him. That will be our key to winning is not having a Langley in our secondary. We just need to continue to work out the kinks on defense and allow the cream rise to the top. Some of it already has (Kwon).

Would be crazy if our secondary ends up being , Eugene, Jefferson, White and RR and it could conceivably happen considering how talented that young group is. I just want the best on the field. No matter their names.

I don't know a lot.

however, I find this amusing that some in this thread are complaining about the coaching on defense.

John Chavis is a GREAT d.c., whatever issues we have on defense isn't because of coaching. He's the same d.c. that had dominate d's at tenn and constructed probably the best defense in lsu history in 2011.

The issues we have is more likely due to inexperience and talent. Welter know's what to do but is limited from a talent stand point. J collins and mills probably know what to do but are limited. Then you have highly talented guys like q.a., d.b., d.j., white, robinson, who aren't experienced enough to recognize what to do.

this isn't complicated and i have the ut most faith that these guys are getting the best teaching out there. some get it quicker than others. Minter was an entirely different player from his soph to his jr year.

If you are bitching about coaching on the defensive side of the ball, just stop. you look stupid.

Chavis is a great DC (and arguably the best LB pos coach of al-time) but his D's at Tenn were seldom dominant. His best body of work is happening before our eyes. 2011 was a great D but in recent times 2003 has been the best.

As for this year's D, we're simply young and making young mistakes. I think Chief is probably experimenting some so there may be some lineup changes come Auburn game - I expect'em at LB and DB.

Great point. Similarly, Kelvin Sheppard in his 2nd yr under Chief became a force at LB in '10.

Linebackers and d backs will get better as it doesn't seem that who will be the starters going forward has been set yet. I expect to see some changes against Kent St and even more against Auburn. This is a young defense and it is still being sorted out. It will get a lot better. We have a lot of good young talent in DB's White, Robinson, and Jefferson along with LB's Louis, Debo, and Beckwith. Expect some changes to be made to make us faster and more athletic in the back 7. Those bad angles and losing containment problems will be taken care of once we get the better talent on the field. Got to remember a lot of these guys just got on campus. Kent St game should be real interesting.

I don't think the DEs are faultless. They get collapsed inside a ton and not because of "crack backs." They are just getting beat by OTs and TEs.

But yeah, the LBs have been miserable. Kwon started to show something 2nd half vs. UAB, but he's struggled at times too.

OK, so I think most of us can agree on this point...the staff has been teaching the proper techniques at practice, but the 1st & 2nd year players haven't perfected execution yet...the older guys haven't solidified their starting positions, so the staff has been working in the youngsters to see what they can do under fire...we're starting to see progress from them, but not acceptable results...this week's evaluation with Kent St. will be key to see who starts against Auburn...personally, I'm excited to see who steps up and takes the starting LB jobs...

Trying to breakdown film without having knowledge of the calls made on the sideline is about as useful as tits on a nun.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would rather go through these growing pains early in the season against TCU and UAB then against the meat of the schedule.

Let's see how this shakes out when Aub comes to town. By then things should be much clearer. We have some new pieces that are taking over for experienced players that left. You'll always have growing pains when that happens.
Guys like J.Collins and R.Martin have their arse to the fire right now, lets see how they react.

I don't know that this will be a dominant defense, but they can be pretty damn good. This is another good game to get some young guys feet wet and work on some of the problems. Then it gets real come SEC play.
