Are you insinuating that a true freshman quarterback and a redshirt senior who has taken no collegiate snaps are on equal footing?
no, of course I'd like my first year starter to be a 5th year senior with 4 years in the (same) system. Of course that can help.
But it's not required and isn't critical. A 5th year senior who has taken no meaningful snaps for 4 years is getting very few reps in practice. Yes, he's been in the film room and hopefully has command of the playbook after all those years, but don't over-emphasize it.
A true freshman can blow the 5th year senior away if he has the ability and is coached up properly and has the right system in place.

I agree with you regarding Kentucky, but backup QBs getting snaps against SEC competition is an extremely rare thing.
Jeremy Johnson
Jacob Coker
Ole Miss backup
These players are positioned to be starters next year and got zilch in terms of SEC experience. Then you have to consider that our starting QB was so bad that he needed all the live-action reps he could get.
Lastly, lol at anyone claiming the staff did an injustice to Harris by starting him against Auburn. Miles's house would be ashes if Jennings had started that game.

Give me one example. Ever.

This says a lot more about how horrible of a position Les and company left LSU in at QB than anything else.

The staff did have its share of screwups this year, but playing him against Auburn wasn't one of them. How they called the game and not trying to settle him down, perhaps with a little bit of Jennings in a series or two mixed in earlier, was their mistake.
Les and company are the ones with a history of horrid QB play. It's not something random. Same goes for JJ and Lee. For 4 years, they couldn't find anyone better than those two and it cost the team.

They found Zach Lee. Unfortunately, no 18 year old kid is turning down a $5 million contract.

So their only legit recruit was a known flight risk. You don't see the stupid strategy there?

I'm not saying it was a good move.. QB recruiting is the one legitimate gripe against Miles.
That being said, Lee was an early enrollee and on campus during the MLB draft. Wouldn't necessarily call that a flight risk. Further, Jefferson was serviceable in 2009, but we were still rebuilding our D in Chavis' first year.
The only really awful year we had was in 2010. A year where Z. Lee could have been starting, and a year we signed Mett.

You’re getting real picky with requiring a “true” freshman over a “5th year” senior, but with only about 5 minutes of research, I found several, just for this year. I’m sure there are many, many more:
Miami: Brad Kaaya over Jake Heaps (Heaps is 23 and played his first two years at BYU, transferred to Kansas and spent the next two years there, and transferred again this summer to Miami).
Texas A&M: Kyle Allen over Matt Joeckel, who spent 4.5 years at A&M
Clemson: Deshaun Watson over Cole Stoudt (he's a senior, don't think he’s a 5th year, but you get the point)

Harris was given an entire game to show what he had. Let. It. Go
Jennings played all year and except a few long throws to Dural he was bad. At least Harris showed glimpses of greatness in the comeback against Miss St. and New Mexico State.
